SUMMER CURRICULUM FOR DGs
June 7-July 26, 2020
3 TIPS TO HAVE AN AWESOME DG THIS SUMMER
- PRAY for each of your students individually. Pray for their needs, their faith, their family...Ask them what you should be praying for. As you pray for them, I hope the Spirit puts upon your heart a passion for them to know and love the Lord.
- BE INTENTIONAL: Enough said.
- DISCIPLE them so that they are able to disciple others. Every one of them are different in personality and different in spiritual maturity. But the end game is to equip them enough to where they can grow on their own without us.
What to do during DG time
1. Welcome & catch up (i.e. sharing)
2. Game (optional)
3. Time of study & discussion
4. Application & commitment for the next week
5. Prayer
Breaking Down the "Study Portion" of DGs
That being said, I don't want you to feel too much pressure in trying to be a certified, professional, biblical scholar. I'm expecting you to simply teach the youth what God has taught you and what he is teaching you. Part of this is just journeying with them through it all. So I want to take some of the pressure off of you in that way. But for the summer, I want to provide all the DGs a curriculum for your DGs to think about during the week and have something to discuss during your meeting times.
This series is 7 weeks long so it should take us from June 7 all the way to July 26 and it gives you a week break in terms of lessons. There are 7 "I AM" sayings of Jesus in the book of John and i'd like for all of us to go through those this summer. If you take one a week you should be on track. They are:
1. I am the bread of life (6:35, 48, 51)
2. I am the light of the world (8:12; 9:5)
3. I am the door of the sheep (10:7, 9)
4. I am the good shepherd (10:11, 14)
5. I am the resurrection and the life (11:25)
6. I am the way the truth and the life (14:6)
7. I am the true vine.
Assign each per week and in preparation have them do the following:
- Read the passage and the surrounding context
- Observe and take notes and ask questions
- Find the main idea
- Where does it point to the Gospel? Where do we see Gospel themes?
During the "Study Portion" go through the following:
- What were your observations and questions?
- What is the main idea? (they may have different answers but as a group find the one main idea)
- Where does it point to the Gospel?
- How does this apply to the teenage life?
- How does this apply to the adult life?
IF you want, you are also able to take advantage of sermons and studies that other people have released. I have added the link:
