Chinese Invention: Foot Binding
Tatiana Moore, Jesse Johnson
chinese foot binding is the custom of applying painfully tight binding to the feet of young girls to prevent further growth. The practice originated among upper class people early, but spread and eventually became common among all but the lowest of classes. back then this made them look very pretty. It usually started around the ages of 4-6 and ended around the age of 15 when the feet stop growing. The foot is wrapped in a 10 foot long and 2 inch wide bandage folding the four small toes towards the heel. It must be washed and manicured daily if not it would get an infection in the toe nails. It helped the chinese people because if their feet were not bound they could not get married.
This is the end result of foot binding. Girls start binding their feet starting at the age of 4-6 years old and ending at 15 years old, when the foot stops growing.
This is the bones after foot binding.
