A Message from Mrs. Cengel
Greeting Oak Terrace families,
Week two is in the books! If you don’t do so already, I encourage you to follow us on Facebook and Twitter. We frequently post pictures and share updates and reminders for our families. It’s a great way to stay connected with our OT community.
As a reminder, in lieu of a traditional Open House our classroom teachers and Specials team will be sharing some informational videos with you next Thursday, September 17. We are also going to be compiling a list of Frequently Asked Questions from our families. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to share your questions about the new school year by filling out this form:https://forms.gle/YwLRv8MaEa2xCaoH8
A couple of quick additional reminders for parents:
Students should be utilizing their district issued devices for remote learning. This is extremely important for safety and security reasons. If your child is having trouble with his/her device please fill out a support ticket at support.nssd112.org
Masks must be worn at all times, covering the nose and the mouth, on school property (inside and outside) by students AND parents. We are a school community, so If you see a child or a parent on our campus without one, please don’t hesitate to remind them. We are all in this together! We want to keep everyone healthy and we want to stay in school. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Amy Cengel

MAP Testing
Beginning the week of September 14, Hybrid Learning students in grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade will be taking the NWEA MAP Growth Assessments in Reading, Mathematics, and Spanish. Students participating in Virtual Learning will take the assessments the week of September 21.
North Shore School District 112 utilizes the NWEA MAP Growth Assessments to inform students’ immediate instructional needs and to collect a data point to measure growth over time. The MAP Growth assessment is an adaptive, norm-referenced assessment utilized to measure student growth over time, understand student readiness levels, and target instruction for students needing additional support or challenge. Your child's teacher will be communicating additional information regarding testing schedules and preparation in the coming days. Please check out the NWEA Family Toolkit for more information!"
Otus
As you know, Otus is our primary Learning Management System in NSSD 112. It’s where you go to access your child’s assignments and get links to Zoom meetings. We understand that this is new for everyone and there may still be a few questions about how to access and utilize this resource. We encourage you to take a few minutes to watch the quick Otus tutorial video below.

If you continue to have questions or need support, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
FUNd Run
The health and safety of the D112 students, faculty and community members are our top concern. To this end, the 2020 FUNd Run will be a VIRTUAL event.
This year FUNd Run participants may not be running (and walking) on the beautiful course through the Ravinia Festival neighborhood, but participants will still feel part of the D112 community. And even better, participants will help raise much needed funds to support students in our community as part of a need-based scholarship fund providing critical support for items such as school supplies, books and musical instrument rentals.Participants will complete a 5K or 1-mile Family Walk between October 3 to October 12th on whatever course they wish.
Be sure to post pictures of your family and tag us on social media (@112foundation) or
email pictures to us. “I ran FUNd Run 2020” signs will be posted at all D112 schools for the perfect post-race photo op!
Online registration will begin September 1 and close October 12. Register at: 112foundation.org. All participants will be entered into a raffle with the opportunity to win prizes from local businesses. Check our sponsor page for businesses who donated.
At its heart, the FUNd Run is both a community event, and a fundraiser. In a year when the anticipated need is higher than ever, the FUNd Run will not have a 2020 race giveaway. We recognize many participants look forward to the race swag and wear it proudly throughout the year.
People registered for the event by WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 may visit the FUNd Run Swag Give-A-Way and pick up some vintage FUNd Run giveaways from past years. The Swag Give-A-Way will be held on October 1 from 2pm to 6pm (rain date: October 2, 2pm to 6pm). Location TBD. Questions: 112educationfoundation@gmail.com
