Cub Connections
February 2023
Welcome to Cub Connections! A monthly newsletter sent out to keep you all updated on the awesome opportunities that are going on at TES! Ms. Lingle
Welcome to February!
This month has flown by in the blink of an eye. I apologize in advance for not publishing a newsletter in January but with just returning from my surgery, time just got away from me while getting my feet back under me (literally)! I wanted to share a heartfelt thank you for your good wishes, love, and concern for me while I was out of school. I am not 100% YET but am well on my way. You will see me back on the bicycle riding around town this spring for sure. As we move into February, please continue to do your best to have students present and on time each day at school. There is a lot of magic that happens over the next twelve weeks with student progress and learning and you don't want to miss a single moment! Many of the pieces of our complicated puzzle start coming together. It is fun to watch as your child begins to see and make sense of the lessons and opportunities before them in the classroom. Through some grant and local funding opportunities, we are making great progress on the gym floor renovation and also are in the process of giving our Media Center a much-needed facelift with new chairs and tables (that will arrive in a few weeks). Outside of the classroom, these areas of our school are the heartbeat of learning and activity for our Cubs. Hopefully, in the next 4-6 weeks our gym will be back up and running. I appreciate the work Ms. Bebber is continuing with PE lessons in the interim. She is awesome!

ALL VISITORS (INCLUDING PARENTS) MUST SIGN IN AT THE FRONT OFFICE AND GET A PASS. Thank you for getting into the habit of showing proper ID with you when you come to check out a student. After checking them out, we ask you to wait outside and we will walk your child out to you safely. I can not think of a better reason to present identification than your child's safety! You all have been great!
We continue to have a lot of sickness among our children and staff. The stomach bug we are currently in the midst of is vicious! Please talk with your child about the importance of staying safe while at school. You all are doing a wonderful job of communicating with us at TES if your child is sick. Thank you and continue to do so! If you have questions or concerns about your child's health, please contact Nurse Kendra via Class Dojo or her email, kebowman@alexander.k12.nc.us she will be on campus on Monday and Wednesday (all day) and Friday mornings each week if you need to call (828-632-3072 ext.3663).
School car line drop-off is from 7:45 - 8:15 am. If you arrive after 8:15, you must walk your child into the office and sign them in as tardy. Dismissal in the afternoon runs from 3:25 - 3:45 pm. Please practice the habit of displaying your car rider tag DAILY. If you need additional tags for folks who may not usually pick up, please contact Mrs. Jackson (ajackson@alexander.k12.nc) and she will print as many as you need.
Please help us maintain our children's safety by displaying your tag - every day. All children need to be picked up within this window each day. Thank you.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact me! Ms. Lingle

Media Moments with Mrs. Muscarelli
In the media center, we have been learning to computer code with Beebots and Probots. Please ask your child about them. It is National Read Aloud day on February 1. Please read aloud with your child often. A great tool to use is NC Digital Kids https://nckids.overdrive.com/ online books. You just need a public library card number to use this fabulous resource. If your card number does not work you may just need to call the library to get it updated. NC Digital Kids is a great FREE- way to get ebooks.
Please keep reading and let me know if you have any questions.

Gaddy's Greatness
TES will host Career day on Thursday, April 27th. We are looking for volunteers to share your profession with our students. If interested, please contact Ms. Gaddy at kgaddy@alexander.k12.nc.us or at the school at 828-632-3072.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
All TES students will learn and grow through positive interactions with each other and the adults leading them toward success! Let us know how we can help!
Device Information - Chromebooks and Ipads
There is a 30.00 required school fee at TES. Students will NOT bring devices home daily. They will bring home as needed under the direction of the classroom teacher. Please pay your school fee asap. Upcoming field trip opportunities may be in jeopardy if a student owes outstanding fees for 22-23. If you have a financial burden, please contact Mrs. Scott or Ms. Gaddy. Thank you!
FYI - If a student has lost a charger, it will need to be paid for before being allowed to bring a device home. We must also have signed consent for use of technology.
Title I - Information for Parents
Title 1 at TES (please click the link for direct access to our parent information page)
Taylorsville Elementary School (TES) believes that the education of children is an ongoing cooperative partnership between home and school. Parents and other family members are children’s first teachers; therefore, the continued involvement of parents and family members in the educational process is most important in fostering and improving educational achievement. We encourage our parents to help promote the mission of our school, learn about the goals and objectives of our school, and stay informed about their child’s progress while at TES. Our school qualifies as a Title I School because the percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunch is higher than the district average. Currently, Taylorsville Elementary’s free and reduced lunch meals percentage is around 64%. As a Title 1 School, TES receives federal funding for supplies, materials, and parent engagement activities. A Title 1 plan to spend this money is created with input from staff and parents at the beginning of every school year. The Title 1 Plan is normally reviewed at the October PTO meeting and as a part of the beginning of the year Curriculum Night.
Sincerely,
Ms. Janel C. Lingle, Principal
