NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
Schools are required to practice various drills (fire, earthquake, lock down, etc.) each month. So far we have practiced fire and earthquake drills. Tomorrow, November 1st, we are going to practice our first lock down drill. The purpose of this lock down drill is to practice responding to the district's standardized prompt - lock down, locks, lights, out of sight. In addition to locking down the classroom, teachers will practice securing the barracuda intruder defense devices that we received over the summer. We explain to the students we are participating in a drill and that it is not a real occurrence, and we work with the few that ask throughout the day if the drill was a practice reinforcing that everything is okay at school. Thank you for assuring your child(ren) that we were only practicing a drill like we do every month.
We are sorry that we had to cancel the trunk or treat activity last weekend. Students and staff were looking forward to the event. With football playoff games, soccer, baseball and other sports tournaments, we could only secure 13 cars to pass out candy at the event (and we needed 25 minimum). The trunk or treat committee took all the donated candy and made treat bags for every child in the school, and teachers distributed the treat bags today. Thank you to Heidi Reyes for all her work with the event and to the committee that made over 400 treat bags.

Socktober Update:
K -Kids is still collecting socks, toiletries, and gently used clothing and shoes for our Socktober drive. Our current total of donated items is 265. Those items will be donated to families in need right here in Lincoln. Thank you to all who have donated. Items can be turned in to the front office or at the turn in container in each classroom pod. Mrs. Taxara's Class gets a special shout out for most items donated at this time. Le's see if we can collect 500 items!
Canned Food Drive:
Starting in November, Foskett Ranch will help the local Lincoln Lyons club by collecting canned food to be distributed to families to ensure they have a nice Thanksgiving meal. Our school wide goal is 1,000 cans of food (that's 2 to 3 cans per student). Start watching for Lyon's donation boxes around campus.
The next K Kids meeting: November 7th, room 304 from 2:45-3:30.
