News to Know...
Dear Stoller Families,
I hope you have all had a good week. We are planning and coordinating for Parent-Teacher conferences next month. Teachers look forward to this opportunity to show you what your students have been working on and talk about ways you can support them at home. As we get closer to those dates, we will send out communication around how you can sign up.
As part of the district security upgrades, Stoller will be having some work done this year to ensure all visitors come in through one area and sign in. These are upgrades that had been planned since last year and made possible by bond dollars.
This will mean that the main office (where principal and principal’s secretary are located) will be the main entrance to the building during school hours. Every visitor will have to enter through this office before proceeding to other areas of the building. I don’t yet have the exact date. Once I do I will, I will get this to you along with any other pertinent information.
To prepare for this and to ensure we know who is coming in the building, we will make some changes to where students arriving late or being picked up early check in/out. We will also start redirecting all visitors to the main office to check in. We will help guide families until everyone gets the flow.
Please remember that some of our students ride bikes or walk to school. Please drive slowly and keep an eye out for them, especially as it starts getting darker.
Thank you all for making Stoller such an amazing and caring community.

Stoller Safety
Last Reminder...
We work hard to ensure the safety of your child. The Beaverton School District website has some great information about the procedures we have in place at all of our schools to keep students safe in the event of an emergency.
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/district/departments/public-safety
The Safe Schools Oregon link found on the Public Safety website is a great resource for parents and students. Safe School Oregon is a place to report threats to our school community. Once a report is made, the school is informed, and in some cases, law enforcement is informed as well. More information about Safe School Oregon can be found on their website https://www.safeoregon.com/report-a-tip/
After School Activities Bus
After school activities buses will feature “transit style” bus routes for students. Students will be assigned stops within ½ mile of their homes. All stops will allow students to utilize sidewalks and not have to cross busy streets. The majority of stops will be located near major housing areas (apartments, community centers or neighborhood elementary schools). The advantage to having assigned stops is the ability for parents to access the My Stop App to track their child’s bus.
The activities bus is for those students who are eligible to ride the school bus (not walkers) and plan to ride the activity bus on a regular basis.
After school activities buses will run Tuesdays and Thursdays, leaving Stoller At 5:10pm beginning Tuesday, October 16th and ending Thursday, May 23rd.
If you need to request bus service for your student please fill out the Activity Bus Request form (these forms are also available in the attendance office) and turn it in to the attendance office.
OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books)
Stoller GSA Club
Last Reminder...
Any student who is interested in having fun in a safe place where they can be themselves, wanting to discuss issues around gender and sexuality, and anyone interested in standing up against bullying and making a difference at Stoller can join. Your child may join us if they are interested in making Stoller a safer place for all students! We will be meeting on Tuesdays 4-5pm starting Tuesday, September 18th in U3, Ms. Whittle’s classroom. Contact Ms. Whittle if you have any questions. After school activity permission forms are available here and are also available in the attendance office.
Mission statement: The Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA) is a student-run organization of Stoller students who are passionate about ending homophobia and transphobia and are here to support. We create a safe environment where we are working towards education on LGBTQ issues, ending bullying at Stoller, and becoming a voice for the voiceless. We stand for respect and acceptance for our community and we look out for one another.
AVID Family Night
Last Reminder...
This event is for families of students who are in the AVID elective. Please plan to attend on September 26th from 5:30-6:30pm, to learn about AVID, expectations for your students, and to celebrate our AVID community.

Canvas for Parents
Last Reminder...
The Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) is used by many middle school teachers as an extension to in-class instruction. Teachers using Canvas can post assignments, give feedback, and communicate with students. You can also sit with your child, while they have their Canvas account open and review assignments and communications with their teacher together.
Parents or guardians do not need a Canvas account to monitor student progress, you can continue to use ParentVUE; however, you can create a Canvas account to view more detailed assignment information, view feedback and communicate with the teacher.
Think of Canvas as a virtual backpack, giving you a look at the day-to-day assignments. ParentVUE will still be the source for attendance and permanent record grades.
Visit the BSD Canvas for Parents webpage to learn more about how to create your own Canvas account, as well as answers to frequently asked questions.
Please note that if you are a BSD employee trying to access your Canvas Parent account you must do so from a non-BSD machine (personal computer or smart phone is okay).
Stoller PTO - "50 for 50" Fundraising Drive
Last Reminder...
It may seem like a big goal, but the PTO has big visions for Stoller. Instead of multiple small fundraisers throughout the school year, this week the PTO kicks off our “50 for 50” Fundraising Drive. We are asking that families donate $50 to the Stoller PTO so that we can reach our fundraising goal of $50,000. These funds will allow us to not only continue supporting programs such as Art Literacy, the Renaissance Faire, and Art Night, your donation will also help us fund the all new Maker Space, install monitors in the entry way and main hall for school announcements and photos, introduce an annual School Beautification event, and other improvements to help make Stoller the best it can be.
Donations can be made on the Stoller PTO website or by dropping off a check, made payable to Stoller PTO, at the front office. Receipts for company matching and tax benefits can be provided. Still have questions? Contact Chris Temple-Morris, Stoller PTO President, or attend our first PTO Meeting on Thursday, September 27th at 7:00pm in the Stoller Community Room.
Thanks for your support!
Art Literacy Is Looking For Volunteers
Join us for this opportunity to enrich your child’s classroom experience with art history lessons and hands-on art projects. Art backgrounds are not needed, just an interest in spending a day helping students tap into their creativity!
The first training date is Tuesday, October 9th at 9:15am in the new Art Lit Classroom. Volunteers must be cleared through the Beaverton School District before they can work in the classroom. This can be done by clicking on the Get Involved Page on the Stoller PTO website.
Contact Chandra Innes at StollerPTOArtLit@gmail.com for further information!
Talented and Gifted (TAG)
Every year all students are considered for identification as Talented and Gifted in the Beaverton School District. District policy defines gifted students as those who score at or above the 97th percentile on a standardized, nationally normed test of mental ability and/or academic achievement. Behavioral, learning, and/or performance information is also considered before a student is identified for TAG services.
If you think your child might exhibit qualities that typically are used to describe giftedness, you may wish to complete a Parent Information Form which can also be picked up from the main office. Completing this form does not guarantee that your child will be tested; it gives the TAG committee additional information in the nomination process.
