9 Ways to Cultivate Courage in Kids by Dr. Michele Borba
Part 9 of 9
Teach your kids how to reduce their fears. If not kept in check, fear can be overwhelming. Teach your child simple strategies to be brave. You might encourage positive self-talk, such as saying, “I can handle this” or “I have courage to do this.” Or teach your child to take slow, deep breaths to find courage. Research finds younger children are more likely to share their fears with another child. Though you want them to be open with you, let them know it’s also OK to share their worries with a friend. Choose a fear reducer that works best for your child and then help her practice that until it becomes a habit.

Give a Leopard a High Five!
The Leopard High Five program is a way for you to salute any Gainesville ISD employee who goes above and beyond what is expected. Whether you are a parent impressed with that special touch your child's teacher added to a moment, or you are a co-worker who thinks the campus PEIMS clerk doesn't hear often enough about the great job she is doing, you can send a Leopard High Five! Nominations can be made by any parent, student, community member, or co-worker and any employee within Gainesville ISD is eligible to receive a High Five. Give lots of High Fives to anyone who has positively impacted your child at school!
The link is located on our website and is always open for nominations.

Mobile app ensures easy access to parent portal
Parent portal is where you completed the online registration, but also is where you can access all of your child's grades, absences, attendance, discipline referrals, and more. You can also subscribe to alerts by email and/or text message for things such as a grade below 90, and average below 80, missing assignments, etc. This helps prevent surprises at progress report and report card time!
