Abuse
"Because of You"- Kelly Clarkson (2009)
I chose "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson because it shows the mental and emotional abuse that a child experiences as she is growing up. Her father never showed her any attention, and her mother's marriage is falling apart. As she gets older she begins to resemble her parents' actions in her relationships, until she makes a breakthrough at the end of this video and changes her family in a way that her mother and father never could.
"Around 10% of children suffer emotional abuse every year... More still up to 15% a year- suffer neglect." -thegardian.com/society/2008/dec/03/child-abuse-lancet-baby-p
"Little Toy Guns"- Carrie Underwood (2015)
I chose "Little Toy Guns" by Carrie Underwood because it talks about the effect words could have on you. Instead of harmless little toy guns that don't hurt, the parents are showing their little girl that a family could be easily torn apart by just the words they use and that there is no fix.
"One out of every two marriages today end in divorce and many divorcing families include children."-aacap.org/AACAP/Families_and_Youth/Facts_for_Families/FFF-Guide/Children-and-Divorce-001.aspx
"Alyssa Lies"- Jason Michael Caroll's (2010)
I chose "Alyssa Lies" by Jason Michael Caroll's because it shows that unless something happens to prevent child abuse these little children will go unnoticed and unheard. In this video a little girl befriends a girl who is being abused at home and when she tells her dad he doesn't do anything at first. But once he takes a stand and tries to stop it, he is to late. This video shows the serious things that can happen to a child due to abuse.
"According to data from the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System, 50 states reported a total of 1,484 fatalities. Based on these data, a nationally estimated 1,520 children died from abuse and neglect in 2013." - childwelfare.gov/punPDFs/fatality.pdf
"Til It Happens To You"- Lady Gaga (2015)
I chose "Til It Happens To You" by Lady Gaga because people are quick to make judgements and assumptions until they are in the situation themselves. In this video, it takes you through different situations where there are physical, emotional, and mental abusive relationships. And this song asks the questions "How do you know how they feel?" and "Why tell someone to get over it and pull themselves together when you yourselves haven't been where they are."
"One in five college women would have been assaulted in the year 2015 if it wasn't for people standing up to make a change." - youtube.com/watch?v=ZmWBrN7QV6Y
"Somebody's Chelsea"- Reba McEntire (2011)
I chose "Somebody's Chelsea" by Reba McEntire because all of these women who have been physically, mentally, or emotionally abused just want to be someone's everything. And in this song it talks about one mans love for his wife and even though they were married for 60 years he still counted himself the luckiest man for everyday that he was able to spend with her.
"Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States, more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined." - clarkprosecutor.org/html/domviol/facts.htm
"One Of These Days"- Tim McGraw (2013)
I chose "One Of These Days" by Tim McGraw because this is another song that shows how bullying can effect the bullied. How all anyone wants to be is accepted and seen. And this song also shows the possible emotional and mental problems and feelings that the bullies could have later on in life.
"Researchers found that bullies are more likely than their classmates to suffer from low self-esteem, depression, and behavioral problems from early childhood and through primary school. They are more likely to suffer from mental health problems later in life too." - theguardian.com/education/2008/aug/29/bullying.schools
"Don't Laugh At Me"- Mark Wills (2009)
I chose "Don't Laugh At Me" by Mark Wills because this song shows the mental abuse children and adults face when bullied. No one stops and thinks about how their actions effect others, and instead of judging them all anyone needs to do is be kind.
"Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University." -bullyingstatistics.org/content/bullying-and-suicide.html
"Piece by Piece"- Kelly Clarkson (2015)
I chose "Piece by Piece" by Kelly Clarkson because it talks about a father leaving his child and his family. As the little girl grows up she finds a man who loves her as she is and piece by piece he helps her realize how loved and valuable she is. Then at the end of the song Kelly talks about her little girl and how she will never leave her because piece by piece her daughters father helped her learn what love was.
"Based on the unique number of victims, an estimated 78 percent (78.3) [of children] suffer neglect." -acf.hhs.gov/programs/cb/resource/can-faq7
