Happy Friday! We have much to celebrate this week! Our students are awesome! Check out the notes below for student and program highlights.

Our students did a great job this week with testing and alternate schedules! The first round of STAAR is done and the upcoming dates are below.

May 7th: Algebra I

May 13: 6th and 7th Math (8th Math Retest/Make-Up)

May 14: 6th and 7th Reading (8th Reading Retest/Make-Up)

Congrats Orchestra Students!

This past weekend, orchestra students from CMS performed in the MISD middle school solo & ensemble festival. All of the performers earned ratings of Superior and Excellent, earning them shiny new medals for their collections! In addition to earning a medal, several students earned special “exemplary” medals from the judges. These exemplary ratings were limited, and each judge was only allowed to give a handful of these ratings.

We had numerous students earn an exemplary solo award:

Isaiah Alvarez, violin

Labeeb Kibria, violin

Ujjwala Morum, violin

Iman Shoaib, violin

Leo Yamauchi, violin

Serena Oh, viola

Nashmia Kibria, viola

Sammie Pickford, viola

Ben Ritterbusch, viola

Sasha Harber, cello

Carter Jones, cello

Hanna Chewning, bass

Jackson Reeder, bass

There were also two beginner ensembles who earned an exemplary award:

Lower String Ensemble: Preston Quintero, Abby Thornell, Jake Thornell, Kevin Sales, Samantha Pertee

Upper String Ensemble: Jack Flannery, Cole Harris, Tegan Painter, Kyrstin Hamaker, Meranda Sombrerero, Alex Nosrati

PTO General Meeting and Guest Speaker

Join us on May 2nd at 10:00am in the CMS Library. Our PTO has invited Ashley Sine, from MEF, to talk about programs that support our students! The PTO will also vote to fill board positions for next year and present the interim budget.

A message from PTO!

We are already planning and thinking about next year for our PTO Board and we have open positions that need some great volunteers.

This year we had a wonderful, dedicated group of volunteers and we hope to continue that into next year. Through the PTO, we have been able to raise funds for the school through our donation drive and weekly snack shack. Those funds supported the school in many ways. We ARE LOOKING FOR any parents who are willing to volunteer to be a chair or co-chair of a committee, or just serve on a committee. We always WELCOME volunteers to work in the copy room and in the snack shack in the afternoons from 3:15-4:00 pm. Any time given, will be greatly appreciated and we always have fun working together.

These are the OPEN POSITIONS:

  1. Snack Shack - Purchasing and organizing snacks and items to sell in the school store. We need another co-chair for this.

  2. Staff Appreciation - Chair or 2 Co-Chairs needed. Planning and organizing different events throughout the year to celebrate our teachers and staff.

  3. Spirit Wear - We are looking for a co-chair to help design and sell spirit wear at various events throughout the year.

  4. Fundraising - Need a co-chair to work with the our current co-chair. Last year we did a donation drive and it was successful. Someone who is good with technology, videos, posting on social media, etc would be helpful.

If you are interested in any of these positions, or just want to volunteer some time to help on any of these committees, please send an email to serenaashcroft1114@hotmail.com.

Also, if you have a business in town that would be interested in working with our PTO to sponsor a luncheon, teacher event or school activity, we would LOVE to know about it and help advertise your business.

We appreciate any and all support!!
