PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear RC Families,

Thank you for participating in our spring conferences. Conferences, at this time of year, can be a celebration of the amazing growth that students have made. A time, to reflect and make plans to support students to finish strong. Although I miss the days of families in our schools going from classroom to classroom to meet with our teachers during conferences, I hope that this year of zoom conferences has made it easier for you to connect.

On another note-- this week I had a milestone birthday. My 24 year old student teacher self can NOT believe that I am 50! I continue to reflect on the joy, the challenges and celebrations that this profession has brought me over the years. It is such an honor to be an educator. Celebrating with the sweet messages and smiles from your children was a joy! Please let your students know that I read every single card and admired the pictures. What fun!

Rock Creek is a special place~

Have a WONDERFUL weekend! ~Tiffany

Our priority is to create harmonious and productive classrooms for next year. To create class groups, grade level teams, sped team and our school counselor use a number of data points about each student including: reading, writing and math levels, learning characteristics, gender, behavior/social characteristics, and more. Achieving balanced classes is a complex process. If you feel that there is information we need about your child's placement, please fill out this optional form. Please note we are not able to honor individual teacher requests. Please submit responses by May 12, 2022

Hi Families! If you are interested in learning more about anxiety, please watch the anxiety training I, Michelle Schimpke (School Social Worker), recorded on YouTube. If you would like to reference my slides, those can be found here. If you have any questions, concerns, need consultation, or want to learn more, you can message on ParentSquare or email me at michelle_schimpke@beaverton.k12.or.us. ARRIVE ON TIME-READY TO LEARN

Make arriving to school on time a priority. Students should arrive at school between 8:15 (if eating breakfast) and 8:25 am and be in their classroom ready to learn by 8:30 am. Students who arrive late disrupt the entire class and miss important information teachers share about the plans for the day. Children who exhibit chronic lateness often struggle with organization in general. They may find it hard to keep track of personal items or forget to turn in homework. Helping them establish the habit of timeliness tends to have a positive ripple effect to other areas of life.

Help your child have a good start to their day by making sure they arrive to school on time!

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL

Big picture
Big picture

Please join Beaverton Safe Routes to School this May as we celebrate spring and encourage students and families to walk and roll to school! This year there are two ways to celebrate:

1. During the week of May 2nd -6th ride your wheels to school. The Wheel Fairy will be visiting all Beaverton schools to attach small notes and prizes to any wheels found in school racks.

2. On May 18th walk, bike, scoot, skate or bus to school to get active, be green, spend time with friends, have fun and win prizes!

Visit www.beaverton.k12.or.us/safe-routes for more information

Beaverton Safe Routes to School Parent Surveys

It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.

Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.

The following links will take you to a district survey and will be combined with classroom tallies to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.

The district survey will be open for responses for four weeks from May 1st until May 31st.

We appreciate your help in giving us information to make the Safe Routes to School program effective for all Beaverton School District students.

CHANGE OF AFTER SCHOOL PLANS

Please be sure that your child knows what they are doing after school, before they leave in the morning. If there is a change to their normal dismissal plans, please send a note, email or ParentSquare message the teacher. If the teacher is not notified of the change by a parent, students will be sent home per their normal plan. We ask that phone calls with change of plans be limited to emergencies only. Urgent messages should not be left on teacher voice mails during the school day. We cannot guarantee that last minute messages will be delivered before the end of the day. Thanks for helping us limit classroom disruptions.

PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE

If you call the school and don't get an answer, please leave a message. We often have only one person in the office answering calls, the doorbell and escorting kids to and from class and may not always be able to answer right away. We are unable to answer the door or phone between 3:00 -3:10 pm. Your call is important to us and we will call back as soon as we can.

Thanks for your understanding!

CAR/WALKER ARRIVAL TIME 8:20 AM- CLASSROOM DOORS LOCK AT 8:30 AM

For the safety of our students, students that are parent drop off, walkers and bike riders are not to arrive before 8:20 am (8:15 am if eating breakfast). Bus riders arrive at 8:15 am because the school buses need to leave earlier to pick up middle school students. Classroom doors do not open until 8:20 am. We do not have space or the supervision for all students to safely line up outside the doors until 8:20 am.

Classroom doors shut and lock at 8:30 am. If your child is not in the classroom by 8:30 am, please walk them to the main front doors and ring the doorbell. Staff will escort them to class.
