Interview with Senior Captain Hser Pwe Htoo
Hser talks about being a two year captain, what goals the team has for the season, and personal high lights for himself and the group thus far.
What is one accomplishment that the team has earned already that you're proud of?
We took a few early season losses that hurt. But since then, we've been playing much more like a team, and the results reflect that. I'm proud that we are ranked as one of the top 10 teams in the state. Every year I have been a member of the soccer team, we have been in the top 10. It's great to keep that legacy alive, but I want to see us crack into the top 5.
What is one thing the team is looking forward to this season?
On Saturday, 9/18, we will be hosting the first ever rivalry match between Humboldt and Washington. This has been something in the works for several years as the rivalry has grown. We know almost every player on the Washington team personally, and we all play together outside of high school. It'll be fun to play for a trophy and build some school pride.
What will the rivalry game with Washington be called?
The match is being called the "Community Cup" and is being hosted by the Karen Community of Minnesota. The idea for calling it the community cup came from the fact that we want to honor the entire community of Humboldt and Washington, both alumni and current students. We want to bring the two school communities together, and tie it back to the communities that support us when we are not in school. While many players for both schools are Karen, this cup match is meant to honor everyone, which is why we've called it the community cup.
