The Good News
October 29 - St. John XXIII Catholic School
Catholic Education Sunday - Please Join Us!
“Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Phil 4:8).
Catholic education takes its lead from Jesus Himself: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” (Mt 28.19-20) Simply, this means announcing the Good News of Jesus Christ and helping one another to become His disciples.
Please see the Bishop's letter below and Catholic Education Sunday resource.
In Christ,
Mrs. Tracy Melnyk, Principal

Healthy Celebrations - Administrative Procedure (AP) on Healthy Food Choices at School
EICS is committed to creating and supporting school environments that promote wellness and encourage healthy eating for all members of the school communities including staff, students and their families.
A new AP has been devised to assist us in adhering to this plan. Parents, while we understand celebrations such as birthdays, Halloween, etc... are fantastic excuses for us to indulge a bit, we kindly ask that you help us in supporting this initiative. Instead of cupcakes for birthdays, feel free to send in a fruit tray or a book for the class library instead. Similarly, for Halloween, we are asking that Teachers will also communicate this in their classroom news and offer you better ways to celebrate in their individual classrooms. Feel free to peruse the AP by clicking the link:
Field Trip Fees
Should the payment of these fees be a financial difficulty you may qualify for the EICS Fee Waiver Program. Please visit the EICS website to learn more, or to download the application form. The application deadline is December 15, 2017. Thank you.
Evidence of Learning & Digital Portfolios
We invite you take some time to discuss your child's work; congratulate success, encourage where challenges exist, and set goals for the future.

Kairos Blanket Exercise
St. John XXIII is very excited to offer to our parent community the opportunity to participate in the KAIROS Blanket Exercise on Thursday, November 23 at 7 p.m. in our school library. The Blanket Exercise is a teaching tool that shares the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. The experience is incredibly impactful and brings much understanding and empathy for the history of our Indigenous People and our role in positively moving forward towards reconciliation. Participating in such an activity can also be very impactful in supporting our children’s learning of this very important topic. If you are interested in attending, please let Mrs. Weller know by sending her an email at sandyw@eics.ab.ca
Our school staff will have the same opportunity to participate in the KAIROS blanket exercise on November 10. Both sessions are supported through funding from the Alberta Culture Celebration 150 and much thanks for helping us to arrange these sessions goes out to Mrs. Lana Santana.
