McLean County Elementary Schools

Big picture

Hello! My Name is....

Amy Lyons, and I am thrilled to be the new Library Media Specialist for the three elementary schools. I have enjoyed meeting all of you and appreciate your warm welcome.

I am sure you are curious about me, as were the students, so here you go:

  • Graduated from the University of Florida (GO GATORS!!)
  • Taught Middle School and High School Language Arts - 9 Years
  • Media Specialist -3 Years
  • District Technology Integration Specialist - 2 years
  • Married to a Math Teacher for 20 years, 2 boys ages 17 and 18
  • Live in Tell City, Indiana

and to answer the most frequent question asked by the children.......I'm 46.

For the past year, I have served as the Executive Director of the United Way of Perry County, Indiana. I found out that leading a nonprofit is NO JOKE, and I really missed school. I am truly elated to be here with all of you, and I am committed to collaborating to make McLean County Schools the best we can be.

Using the Internet Responsibly, Respectfully, Ethically and Legally

Beginning this week, Grades 3-5 will bring ChromeBooks to the Media Center (AKA The Lyons Den) for Digital Citizenship instruction during their library time. We will use a combination of curricula from Common Sense Education and Google's Be Internet Awesome, both research-based, free, open resources. Grades K-2 will begin after Christmas.

Tech Tips

Each time I send a Media Minute I will share one (or more) of my favorite tech tools with you. Please send me your favorites if you would like others to know about them as well!

This one is a basic extension called G Suite Training. It is a built-in Google tutor for you in any of your G-Suite Apps. It looks like the icon above and is housed just to the right of your image. Once added, you simply click on the icon in the respective Google App and a menu of help options specific to that App will drop down. The help menu includes tutorial videos to walk you through the steps you are hoping to accomplish. Find it here in the Chrome Web Store.

Feel free to email me with questions or come see me! I love Google and I am especially enamored with extensions.
