The first day of school is only one day away, and we are looking forward to seeing all of our students. Returning to school after summer break brings a mixture of emotions. For some there is excitement over seeing friends and meeting a new teachers, while others may feel nervous, apprehensive or sad. All of these emotions are normal and expected. Remind your child that school is a safe place with caring adults. In the end, our school is a place where all children can discover who they are and reach their potential.
Please carefully look through this newsletter for important first day information. Note that this year we are asking for parents to "hug and go" at the rock by the gate to the bus loop. KInder, first and new families are welcome to walk their child up to the school during the first week of school. Adults will be on duty at the rock to greet the students and walk them down at the end of the day.
Be sure to mark you calendars with important events and holidays, and plan your vacations and family trips to coincide with our school breaks. Please note the new date for our BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT - SEPTEMBER 14th 5:30-7PM.
Finally, check out the August read aloud challenge below. There is still time to listen to some of these great back to school books!
Let today (and tomorrow) be the start of something new and something wonderful!
All my best,
Ashley Bodkins

Drop off and Pick-Up
The procedure for students who are being dropped off and picked up by an adult will be different this year. Why? To create a safe environment for all students by making the entrance to school a student/staff only zone in the morning and afternoon.
Drop-off: Students will be dropped off at the rock and will walk up the sidewalk independently. Think, “Hug and Go!” An exception will be made for our kinder and 1st grade students in the first three days of school. We will have two adults on duty to help students feel welcomed and safe.
Pick-up: Students will meet the adults on duty in the hallway outside of the District Theater. The adults will walk them down to the rock and wait until they have been picked up. Any students remaining after 3:10 PM will be brought back to the office.
Learner Profile of the month...
Full Days for Kindergarten...
We understand that the initial schedule to begin the kinder school year with three half days posed concerns and scheduling conflicts for parents. We have worked hard to alleviate this additional stress on families. The students will still have the opportunity for a warm welcome into their new building but we will begin the 2022-23 school year with full days for all grade levels, including kindergarten. School supplies will be provided by the school, which is included in the student fees.
Transportation Information
Bus Passes:
All students will need a bus pass to ride a bus, next week we will be printing and passing out bus passes for students. Families will need to come to the bus barn between 9:00 AM-4:00 PM to take their pictures for the pass and receive them. Listed below is the schedule in which we will have families come for their passes. We have separated it by the last name to ease the flow of families coming to transportation.
Monday, 8/15: Last names A-E
Tuesday, 8/16: Last names F-K
Wednesday, 8/17: Last names L-Q

Aspen Elementary SKIERS
At AES our essential agreements guide the way we behave and interact with others throughout our school in every setting. This year, we've adopted the SKIER acronym as a way to frame our essential agreements school wide. We hope that you will reinforce these positive attributes with your child at home.
