Welcome to Carroll!

At Carroll Elementary our mission is to inspire and empower learners.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We hope that you are enjoying the last few days of summer with your families and looking forward to the start of school as much as I am. The Carroll staff would like to welcome all the new and existing families back for another wonderful year.

Please remember to bring a current Proof of Residency (POR – water, gas or electric bill from July or August 2017) to the school before August 15th. Students will not be placed on a class list until the proper document is turned into the office. Our office is open from 8:00-3:30 daily. For your convenience, a “drop-box” is located outside the main doors.

You will receive an email from your child’s teacher the day before Meet the Teacher to let you know whose class they will be in this year. Incoming kinder parents will receive the email on Wednesday 4:00, and 1st-5th grade will receive the email Thursday at 4:00.

Meet the Teacher Night for our incoming kindergarteners will be Thursday, August 17th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Kinder Orientation will be in the cafeteria starting at 6:30.

1st-5th graders, Meet the Teacher will be Friday night from 5:30-6:30.

Specials (AMP)

Students will have Specials (AMP) for 50 minutes daily. They have PE 3 days a week, Art and Music each 1 day a week. We ask that all students wear sneakers on PE days so that they can safely participate.

Celebrate Carroll

Celebrate Carroll is our weekly Friday assembly in the cafeteria from 7:50-8:20. During this time we celebrate our students of the week, birthdays, do a movement song (dance), and also various other things depending on the week. We love for parents to attend and have seating on the side and back of the cafeteria for you.

Lunch time

  • We welcome you to come and eat lunch with your child. Sign-in at the front office and at lunchtime you are welcomed to come into the cafeteria.
  • Since this is a special time for you and your child, we have reserved a guest table for parents to have lunch with their children.
  • To avoid hurt feelings of others, we ask that other students not join you.
  • The Texas Department of Agriculture does not permit parents to bring food at lunch time for any other child than their own.

Students will not have outdoor recess on days when the temperature reaches 94 degrees (at the time they would be outside) OR when the heat index is 100 degrees or greater OR when an actual RED ozone warning has been issued in Denton County. When there is an actual orange ozone warning in effect, time spent outside will be restricted to half its normal length. During the winter months, all students should come dressed appropriately for weather and prepared for outdoor play with coat, gloves, scarf, etc. The temperature would have to be very cold (below 40 or 32 degrees wind-chill) before students would not be allowed to enjoy their recess time. However, that time allowed outdoors may be reduced. It is very important to us at Carroll that students have a safe playing environment; therefore, we require that teachers on duty actively monitor the playground. In order to maintain a high level of safety, visitors and siblings may not attend recess.

Because you place your child in our care every day and we take that responsibility very seriously, it is policy in FISD that all employees and volunteers pass a Background Check. Therefore, any person that volunteers in our school, helps supervise students while on study trips, chaperones 5th grade at Camp, helps on field day, or otherwise is in direct contact with our students, must have an updated background check on file. We appreciate and welcome volunteers on our campus. To access the FISD Parent Volunteer Application, please go to the following website: http://www.friscoisd.net/back/forms/htm#volunteer. We understand this procedure requires additional time to complete, but please know we appreciate your willingness to volunteer and comply with the above policy.

*Please note: Background check must be completed EVERY school year. Please complete by mid-September!!

We have LOTS of volunteer opportunities! Check with the office and PTA on ways to get involved!!

Ways to Volunteer at Carroll: Lunch time helper, mystery reading (k-2), Bulletin Board decorations, cut out laminating at home, PTA, class party volunteer, library helper, to name a few.

Carroll PTA

We LOVE our PTA! For the past three years we have had 100% membership for our school and will work to continue this tradition.

Please check out their website at www.carrollpta.org for information and membership.

Campsite Clubs

This year we are thrilled to implement “Campsite Clubs” which will be facilitated by our amazing AMP teachers during your child’s PLC time. Campsite Clubs are designed to foster student interest and curiosity in a safe environment to encourage critical and creative thinking. Grade levels are set up on a 6 day rotation so that students will have an opportunity to attend Campsite Clubs approximately 3 times a month. On that grade level’s PLC day, students will participate in Campsite Clubs from 7:50-8:30. Students have been placed into groups and will spend 6 weeks in one club and then rotate to the next club throughout the year. This allows for every student to have an opportunity to participate in every enrichment activity.
