Message from Mrs. Thomsen
Thank you to the Gardiner and Waldvogel families, Alison Brick, Debbie Butler, Janine Cochran, and Stacey Simmons for volunteering your time to help paint our school's MPR and Front Office. Carrie Gardiner has been working tirelessly to help us select paint colors and update these two spaces for Del Cerro. A big shout-out also to Debbie Butler's son, Derrick, for designing and installing the new vinyl lettering, Del Cerro Home of the Dolphins, to our stage header. Thank you to Emily Simonian and our Plant Foreman, Rick Zimmerman, for hanging our college pennants up in the MPR! We are so fortunate to have Claudine Mansour design all of our PBIS banners and posters that will soon be hanging in our MPR, Office, and classrooms. For those who don't know, Mrs. Mansour is an accomplished graphic design artist and has designed more than 1000 book covers! We have more still to come and hope to have it all completed by mid-April. All of us at Del Cerro are so appreciative and grateful for the support, time, and energy given to our school!
Our 5th grade Girl Scout troop elected to give Del Cerro's library a makeover for their Bronze Award.! Our librarian, Mrs. Crowther, has been working very hard to help prepare the library for the Girl Scouts. We appreciate the extra work and effort to help make our library beautiful.
Last, we have two Eagle Scout Projects that will be completed mid-March. The baseball field has received a new backboard and benches from Eagle Scout Riley Dodds. In a couple weeks it will be landscaped. Another Eagle Scout, Matthew Lawson, will build and install a few more planters in the school's garden. These planters will give our teachers and students an opportunity to have an outdoor learning space. There are a lot of connections to science that can be made in the garden! Our PTA funded Green Team, led by Mrs. Corwin, continues to be a popular extra-curricular activity for our students. Thank you to our supportive PTA and Mrs. Corwin!
Del Cerro will host the second day of school choice tours for new and incoming families on March 11. Tours will be held at 9 AM and 11 AM. The tour will include a brief presentation of Del Cerro's programs, classroom visits, and time for question and answers. If you know of any families new to our community or interested in school choice, please share this information with them. Please email thomsenk@svusd.org for more information.

Staff Spotlight
Debbie lives in Mission Viejo with her husband, Bob, of 36 years. They have raised two sons, Derrick and Matthew, who attended Saddleback Valley USD schools Del Lago, Los Alisos, and Trabuco Hills High School.
Debbie is an avid quilter who has celebrated many milestones with friends and colleagues by sewing quilts for them! It is a lucky person who receives a gift of a custom quilt by Debbie! Debbie has won many ribbons and awards for quilts.
Debbie and Bob love to camp! You can find them at the beach or the mountains during weekends and the long summer holiday!
We are very fortunate to have Debbie as our Office Manager!
Anti-Bullying Presentation
To close the assembly, the author encouraged students to "TAKE ACTION". Students were given a follow-up activity to do in their class in which they created colored handprints and wrote how they will stand up to bullying. These handprints were collected, and used to create a 3-dimensional wire framed bird, called the "Kindness Bird", to serve as a visual representation of students' promises to be kind to one another.
The PAL Team, led by Mrs. McAllister, created a giant bird from these handprints. Thank you PAL Team! The Kindness Bird looks fantastic!
