Notes from the Principal
Dear West Family,
I hope you are having a fantastic January…our staff and students definitely are!
We have been assessing since we returned from the holiday break. You may hear your students talking about taking the STAR test or various reading tests. This gives our staff an opportunity to see the amount of growth your students have achieved since the fall. All of this will be a topic of conversation when we have our Parent Teacher conferences in February.
Aside from doing some testing, we also have a lot of unique things taking place in our building this month. We had the “Big Idea” assembly last week. Next week our Field School team is moving into their portable in the back of our building. We will also be welcoming GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program) next week.
Please make sure to check out all of the amazing things we have going on in the newsletter below…wishing all of you a wonderful weekend!
As always please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.
West is..
Best,
Tony
Attendance
Student Absences
Just a reminder if your student is absent please email westoffice@nvps.net or call 616.361.3470 the day of the absence.
Student Tardy
Students are marked tardy if they arrive to class after the 8:15 bell. Please make sure to sign them in on the Chromebook located in our lobby if you drop off students after this time.
*If your student is attending an appointment of any kind please provide us with a doctor's note.
We are now at the point where truancy/attendance letters have begun being sent out and want to make sure we are working together to have your student in school as often as possible. Please know that this reporting it mandatory by the state of Michigan and is something we have to do.
Girls on the Run!
3rd and 4th Grade Parents:
Girls on the Run is coming soon! This is an amazing program that teaches girls in 3rd and 4th grade how to navigate their feelings and to get along with one another. We also learn about different ways to exercise and stay in shape and we have tons of FUN.
If you would like to sign your daughter up for Girls on the Run, click here. Please remember there are scholarships available to EVERY girl!
**We now have practices available on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Please contact Marisa Strow (mstrow@nvps.net) if you would like more information or have further questions.

Nurse's Corner
- Please remember that you cannot send medicine to school with a student, regardless of it is OTC or prescription. A Northview permission form for medication at school must be filled out before office staff can give it to the student.
- A fever is a temperature greater than 100.4F (according to the CDC). Do not send your child to school for 24 hours after the fever has broken and without the use of fever-reducing medication. A low grade fever is 99.0 - 100.3F. If your child is not feeling well enough to attend school, please keep them home.
- Although lice is not a communicable disease, it can be a nuisance. As a parent, it is your responsibility to check and remove lice and nits from your child's hair. Please click here for the KCHD fact sheet.
- For the younger children, it is a great idea to keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in a ziploc bag in the bottom of their backpack (accidents happen).
- Continue to practice good hand and cough hygiene with your children.
