Caldwell School District Update
From Superintendent N. Shalene French
March 2, 2021
Middle, high school schedules change after spring break
Caldwell Families,
We want to let you know about a change in the in-person learning for secondary students that will start Monday, March 29.
Monday, the Caldwell Board of Trustees reviewed updated data from Southwest District Health on the reduced spread of COVID in our community as well as information from physician advisors from St. Luke’s and West Valley hospitals.
After reviewing and discussing the information, the Board decided to return secondary students (grades 6-12) to full-time, in-person learning four days a week with Wednesdays remaining a remote learning day. This change would start Monday, March 29.
On Feb.15, the Board decided to return elementary students (K-5) to full-time, in-person learning four days a week with Wednesdays remaining a remote learning day. This change also starts on March 29.
The District is exploring whether Wednesdays could be in-person learning days for all students. The District’s Instructional Task Force will review the best use of this day and the Board will discuss their recommendation at a future meeting.
As students return to more in-person learning, individuals in the District’s schools and buildings will continue to rely on the following protocols recommended by health and medical officials and the Centers for Disease Control including:
Required mask wearing;
Physical distancing where possible;
Handwashing and respiratory etiquette (covering sneezes and coughs);
Cleaning and maintaining healthy facilities; and
Contact tracing in combination with quarantine and isolation.
To recap, starting March 29 all students K-12 will return to attending school in-person Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with Wednesdays remaining a remote learning day at home. Please note, however, the District's Instructional Task Force will review the best use of Wednesdays and the Board will discuss their recommendation at an upcoming Board Meeting.
Returning to more in-person learning is possible because the spread of the virus has receded. We are hopeful that this will continue.
Sincerely,
Dr. N. Shalene French
