Feed My Starving Children
PLEASE RETURN THE PERMISSION SLIP BY MONDAY, OCTOBER 28! We have to give them an exact number of attendees. If you checked the box saying you can chaperone, we will be in contact with you early next week. Thanks again!
Reading
This week in reading we started our nonfiction unit! We talked about familiarizing ourselves with complex texts and the importance of previewing them. We took some time to pick a couple complex texts that we can focus on in this unit. We also talked about how we need to tolerate living in the "gray area" and working through confusion that the author creates on purpose. Please know that the majority of class time in this unit will be spent in nonfiction texts and encourage your kids to check out complex nonfiction texts next time you visit the library!
Writing
In writing this week, we started our next unit! This informational unit is based on a historical event of their choice! We spent some time brainstorming different events we know about and picking a topic that interests us. We started researching and note-taking!
Math
This week in math we continued our module on multiplication and division. We used all of our multiplication strategies and place value understanding to learn how to multiply a decimal by a whole number. The students applied decimal multiplication to customary unit conversions. For example: pounds/ounces, days/weeks, feet/inches/yards. Ask your child to convert between units...maybe even when cooking!
Parent Teacher Conferences
The online registration will open at 8:00 AM on October 29th. You have to sign up through Skyward. If you are having a hard time, please email your child's teacher with a time that would work. Conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 25 and Tuesday, November 26.
A Note from the PTO

Falling Temperatures!
Parents, please make sure that your child has the proper outerwear for the falling temperatures! We will go outside until temperatures are below 0! Please send them to school with a coat, hat and gloves when needed! None of these kids are "too cool" for a coat! :)
