Tarvin Times

Jan. 28, 2022

Hello Trailblazers,

January flew by fast. We are looking forward to February and are hopeful that numbers continue to go down so we can invite volunteers and guests back on campus soon.

Progress reports will be going home on Feb. 2nd either in the Wednesday folder or by email from your teacher. Something new our district is sending home are reports on how your child scored in reading and math. We utilize nationally normed Istation’s Indicators of Progress (ISIP) which measures student growth with engaging, computer-adaptive diagnostic and screening programs. Readers are assessed in approximately 30 minutes in the following categories: vocabulary, word analysis, reading comprehension, and text fluency. Based on the ISIP results, learners are placed in interactive online instruction on the Istation platform.

When you receive your reports, you may reach out to your teacher with any questions. There is also a website that contains FAQs: https://www.leanderisd.org/universalscreener.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

New Material Adoption

This spring, Leander ISD will consider/adopt new instructional resources for six courses: K-12 Health & PE, 6th Grade Social Studies, AP Environmental Science, Kinesiology, Marketing, and Nutrition & Dietetics. Members of our LISD community have opportunities and are encouraged to provide feedback on these resources from January 18 - February 18 through in-person viewing at Central Office and Cedar Park High School or by viewing the materials virtually on the district website. We will host three Q&A Zoom meetings with district curriculum experts that allow community members to explore the options, ask questions and provide feedback. For questions about the instructional materials selection process, please reach out to Jennifer Collins, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum.

We Need Your Help

On Thursday, February 24, from 5-7pm, Tarvin will hold its first cultural event -- Journey Around the World: A Celebration of Tarvin's Diversity! At this event, students and their families will have the opportunity to "travel" and learn about other cultures by visiting booths from countries around the world.

We need volunteers to help us create and staff these booths. It's easy - we will help you choose a booth and give you the basics to create a display. You can customize it as much or as little as you want. You don't have to be from a country to help with a booth for that country!

If you can help, please contact Emily Wheelwright or Allie Miller:
email: tarvinptaprograms@gmail.com
text or call: 512-750-3490

Thank you for getting involved at our school – we appreciate you so much!
