Family Weekend

Thanks to the 300+ families who attended some part of our Family Weekend. We enjoyed having you on campus and know that the most important thing to you was spending time with your student!

Home for the holidays

Most of your students will soon be coming homing home for Thanksgiving or the winter break. Here is some helpful information from one of our Counseling and Psychological Services psychologists about easing this transition:

using insurance

All SU undergraduate students are required to have health insurance. Every insurance policy is a bit different so it is important for your student to understand the ins and outs of their particular policy. Does your student know how to use theirs?

Campus departments can provide a limited variety of services. Some circumstances may require a referral to off-campus resources. Please make sure your student understands how to use their insurance for those situations.

Help your student understand some insurance basics with this video.

Dance Marathon Miracle Day, 11/28

Help our SU Dance Marathon team reach their goal on our miracle day, November 28th. Our goal is to get 1200 individual donations in 24 hours! Go to to donate and help us reach our goal for a great cause.

important housing dates

If your student lives on campus, please note these important dates:

December 15: residence halls close for Winter Break. Students should leave campus 24 hours after their last exam.

January 4, 2019: residence halls open at 10:00 a.m. for Winter Quarter

To learn more about our housing policies, please see the Resident Handbook

Student Leadership opportunities

Starting on November 26th, your student will have the opportunity to apply for leadership positions with over twenty of our offices on campus. These leadership opportunities can range from being a resident assistant, an orientation advisor, a programming assistant for our student outreach centers, and many, many more! As a campus that is dedicated to empowering leaders, we believe that every student has the capability to lead in their community.

We also know that students don't always recognize the leadership potential within. We hope that your encouragement to apply will help your student realize their potential and develop their skills even further at SU! Should your student have any questions, they visit the Center for Student Involvement on the 3rd floor on the Student Center or contact

campus ministry sponsored retreats

A student's life is hectic and fast-paced. Taking time for reflection and being in community feeds a sense of purpose and belonging. Campus Ministry sponsors a number of retreats and immersion experiences each year. Encourage your student to participate in one or help lead one they have attended. See the options here.
