Ruby Bridges - where the STARS come to shine!
Translation available!
Hello from the principal's desk!
September 5, 2018
Hello to the Ruby Bridges community! Are you coming to our first PTA meeting in about 30 minutes? We are going to approve our budget for the year! I hope you can make it.
We are in full swing over here, action packed days every day. There is a lot of reading and writing, math and science activities going on, and our SEL (Social Emotional Learning) program Toolbox is coming along nicely! Did you watch the movie I posted at the bottom of the last newsletter I sent out last week? Look below for another video on Toolbox curriculum. It is only a couple of minutes long and will help give you some foundation for this super important new program we are launching this year! Ask your kids if they have learned the first tool yet - the breathing tool. Ask them to show it to you with their hands.
Are you interested in helping the school by serving on a REALLY important committee? We are taking nominations for the School Site Committee. The SSC is an important body comprised of school staff and parents that makes important decisions about our school's future, and also sets the budget for programs. If you want to get involved, this is an important way to do it! Send your name to Mr. Woodward to be added to the ballet by next Wednesday, September 12.
Last weekend a few folks from the community gathered to help out here at the school. We cleaned up the garden, organized classroom libraries for Mrs. Kwan and Mrs. Lee, picked up trash and cleaned the teacher's lounge. Look below for some cute pictures. Many thanks to Circle K International, Pastor Ron and his church The Cathedral of Faith, Project Peace East Bay for organizing and Ruby Bridges staff and community! Look below for some pictures :).
Tonight is PTA, tomorrow is Picture Day and Friday is our first spirit day - Wear your favorite color. Pretty exciting times!
With gratitude,
Jesse Woodward

Trait of the month
Studies Weekly
https://www.studiesweekly.com/
Studies Weekly has been adopted by the State Board of Education, and it supports learning standards through a weekly illustrated magazine curriculum (rather than a textbook). Studies Weekly also provides an online version of the curriculum that brings learning to life with primary source videos, audio read-alouds, vocabulary and spelling games, photos and more. We’re excited about using this new media to support critical thinking skills using a 21st-century, technology-enhanced learning program. If you have any questions, please contact Shirley Clem in Teaching and Learning. 337-7154
