ACTIVITY LOGS ~ Our learning coaches should be actively using ParentSquare to receive important school updates and complete our Weekly Activity Logs, which are emailed through ParentSquare every Friday! Please be sure to have your scholar’s log completed by the following Tuesday each week. If you have questions about Activity Logs or ParentSquare, please visit this post or reach out to your scholar’s homeroom teacher.
BLOG ~ 6 SIGNS OF SUICIDE TO MONITOR IN SCHOLARS: Last week we recognized National Suicide Prevention Week. It’s a sensitive topic, but we believe it’s important to have an open dialog to help both parents and scholars recognize the signs of suicidal thoughts and how to help those who may be at risk.
ENERGY BUS ~ We’re excited to share that Compass will continue to be an Energy Bus School this year! All of our scholars and families are invited to join our Energy Bus by checking out this week’s Make a Difference Monday message!
NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH ~ Last Saturday marked the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month! We are proud to celebrate Hispanic heritage and the positive impact it has on American culture including art, music, food and more. Did you know, Victor Ochoa, a Mexican-American invented the first model of a windmill!

AVID ~ An “AVID-ized” classroom and school revolves around the WICOR essentials. which helps support scholars’ learning through writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading. Our teachers will use WICOR to guide scholars’ academic growth at increasing levels of complexity (scaffolding). MISS. D’S SUCCESS TIP OF THE WEEK ~ Our scholars are encouraged to create an organized work space at home that is distraction-free and inviting! Consider setting up a desk in a quiet area of your home away from the television with a comfortable desk chair. Miss. D. also recommends brightening up your workspace with things you enjoy to create a more positive learning environment!

COUNSELING SERVICES
FEATURED COUNSELING SERVICES PRESENTATION ~ High school scholars are invited to join us this Thursday, September 20 at 12 pm for a workshop called "Peer to Peer Respect". The information presented will explore real-life examples and tools on how to respond to harassing texts and/or social media messages. The sessions will be interactive and clearly define how to deal with harassing messages.
FREE CASH FOR COLLEGE WORKSHOPS ~ Starting on Monday, October 1 through Saturday, March 2, 2019, our high school scholars and families are invited to attend FREE Cash for College workshops across California. Scholars and families will receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act (CADAA) and Chafee Grant for Foster Youth applications at these workshops.
COLLEGE CAREER READINESS PLANNING ~ Attending college fairs is an important step in the college research process. The NACAC Performing and Visual Arts Fair serves to connect scholars with a passion for the arts to relevant colleges and universities. The fairs are free and open to the public! EXCEPTIONAL SCHOLAR SERVICES
SPOTLIGHT WEBINAR ~ Learning coaches are invited to join “Understanding and Supporting Students with Mental Health and Learning Disorders,” a webinar this Thursday, September 20 at 12 pm hosted by Dr. Cooley. The presentation will describe various mental health and learning disorders, clarify misunderstandings, and explains new or revised diagnoses. The session will feature important information about ADHD, dyslexia, autism, self-injury, trauma, and adverse childhood events.
