FSDB 107th Commencement Ceremonies
Hello FSDB Classes of 2021 and their families,
I am pleased to announce that our 107th Commencement Ceremonies will be held in Kirk Auditorium at FSDB. I want to share important dates for you to remember:
- Thursday, June 3rd at 11:00 am is the Blind High School Class of 2021 graduation.
- Friday, June 4th at 11:00 am is the Deaf High School Class of 2021 graduation.
- Wednesday, June 2nd will be graduation rehearsals for seniors wearing their caps and gowns as well as having photos taken.
Both ceremonies will be viewable via live stream at www.fsdbk12.org/graduation and since they will also be recorded, you will be able to watch these later.
With ongoing health and safety challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the FSDB administration has decided to exercise caution in honoring this year’s graduates and celebrating their achievements. Our decision to hold in-person ceremonies with assigned seating will be monitored on a daily basis. Should a change of plans become necessary, we will promptly notify graduates and their families.
Now I want to share with you updated information. Each graduate will now be able to bring up to four guests to their commencement ceremony! Families will register online using Eventbrite to reserve their tickets. The registration link will be sent to each graduate’s family via email.
- Registration opens: Saturday, May 1st at 8:00 a.m.
- Registration closes: Friday, May 28th at 4:00 p.m.
I would like to mention one more thing. This year’s graduates will be able to decorate their caps if they wish to do so. I look forward to seeing creative and inspirational designs. More information and details about cap decoration will be shared with graduates by the senior class sponsors.
Congratulations to the FSDB Classes of 2021! We look forward to celebrating you along with your families and friends!
Sincerely,
Tracie C. Snow

Hello families,
Where did time go? Our last Sub SAC meeting occurred last Friday, our high school prom is happening on 5/27, and then after a long and restful weekend, we have the graduation! I am excited, and at the same time, sad to see the seniors leaving the nest we call Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind and embarking in their own journeys out in the big world. Let's congratulate Josiah Roberson (Valedictorian) and Fernando Dopico Fernandez (Salutatorian) again if you see them! For the high school prom, if your son/daughter are attending the prom, please be sure to pick them up from Gobble Pavillion at 9:30 p.m. timely and not from the boarding program if they are day students. If they are boarding students and you would like to pick them up for whatever reason, you can do so from the boarding program. Please ensure that the boarding program is aware of the pick up by sending email to the supervisor on duty ahead of time. I am looking forward to a beautiful and dazzling prom, graced by amazing entertainers, Melissa Yingst and Renca Dunn.
Did I say our last Sub SAC meeting was on Friday? Yes! Our next one will occur in August. If any of you, parents, want to be part of it, it will be virtual, via Zoom. The meetings will occur once a quarter and focus on the five goals listed in our school improvement plan, including parent involvement, instructional data, professional development, collaborative instruction, and socio-emotional support for students. If you need a voice interpreter, we provide! If you need Spanish to English interpretation, we provide! Please reach out to me at paddend@fsdbk12.org if you would like to join.
Now, on another note, students are gearing up for end of year examinations, state examinations, assessments, and more. All the more important for them to attend school as much as possible. If you scroll down, you will see my attendance video and script explaining our policy. If you are taking your son or daughter to an appointment, be sure to send a signed note from that office/agency immediately to Christopher Lennon, our attendance liaison to ensure that your son/daughter's attendance is updated accordingly. His email is lennonc@fsdbk12.org
For these that are working online, If the connection is poor and affects your son/daughter's learning, it is best to upgrade or have your son/daughter attend here where we can provide high speed internet, ample learning opportunities, and multiple supports. We love our students and always will support them.
Pages 21 and 22 of our Parent-Student handbook provide clear explanations of our attendance protocol in respect to the state of Florida attendance mandate, Subsection (3) of Florida Statute 1003.27(7), requiring parents/legal guardians ensure that their child attend school regularly and on time.
Have a good weekend!

Hola familias

ASL version is below.
Ley de asistencia
Hola familias
From Mel Goodall - Director of Student Life (Deaf Dept)
On June 2nd James Hall will be having their End of the Year Dorm Party. We will be giving Positive Behavior awards and “silly” awards. We plan to have food, games, and fun activities for the girls.
The high school girls welcomed the incoming 9th graders with an ice cream social. The girls were able to ask questions about high school and hang out with the high school girls.
Rhyne hall boys went out dinner and paid for their own dinner. This was part of our curriculum activity. They learned to figure out how to split the tab and calculate giving the waitress her tip. The boys made cookies for community service to hand out to the different departments on campus. Last week was staff appreciation week and they wanted to let everyone know they appreciate all that they have done for them this year.
Parents we would like to give you heads up; your child will be bringing home some of their belongings before summer break. We would appreciate your assistance with this. Remind your child to bring home their things these next few weeks. Thank you.

PBiS Incorporates Character Education
FSDB PBiS students are developing great character! Each month, FSDB focuses on a different positive character trait. This month we are emphasizing responsibility. Some of the phrases associated with responsibility that we are introducing to the students include: Do what you are supposed to do • Plan ahead • Persevere: keep on trying! • Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your words, actions and attitudes • Set a good example for others. Teachers and boarding staff are asked to include lessons that may fit into the curriculum naturally. We are excited with this character education emphasis at FSDB. We are hoping that our students continue to be their very best now and in the future.
