P - Problem Solve is one of our 4 school-wide expectations.

With this expectation we encourage our students to try to think of different ways to solve a problem by themselves or with others before asking an adult for help.

The Child Nutrition Department will soon begin using a new software system in school cafeterias. Students will continue to use the same ID/lunch numbers to receive or purchase meals, however, as part of this new system, schools will use MySchoolBucks, instead of MyPaymentsPlus. Current MyPaymentsPlus balances will be transferred to MySchoolBucks this week. New deposits to BGISD meal accounts should be made to MySchoolBucks. The grace period for changing accounts will be February 1, 2022.

All schools offer healthy meals every school day at no cost to enrolled students, however, additional or ala carte items may be purchased. The payment system allows students to maintain a small balance of funds to make these purchases. The use of the system is not required.

MySchoolBucks accepts credit card deposits online, and cash and check payments will also continue to be accepted in school cafeterias. MySchoolBucks can be set up to send low balance alerts, set automatic payments, and/or set daily/weekly spending limits. Plus, funds that remain in your student’s meal account at the end of the school year will be carried over to the next school year.

To begin using MySchoolBucks, visit, and click “Sign Up Today.” You will be asked to verify your State and School District (Bowling Green City Schools).

Parents, This is a reminder that Peppermint Village gift shop is coming to our school this year, with exciting gifts for the entire family. This unique seasonal gift shop sponsored by the PTO is an unforgettable event for everyone to enjoy. Your child may choose from approximately 200 different gifts ranging in price from $.25 to $13, these gifts have been specifically selected with quality in mine. The “gift list” money envelope sent home this week should be completed and returned along with cash to the school on the day your child is scheduled to participate. Peppermint Village will be open December 13th through the 15th. Volunteer opportunities are available below.

Kid Catering

We need parent support during lunch!!! Do you have time during the school day to come spend time helping in our lunch room? You have the opportunity to volunteer during the day and help take care of our students at lunch. If you have an hour or two to help during the day, please see our sign-up form a this link:

After School Tutoring / Open Computer Lab

We have opened our Library for after school tutoring / open computer lab time. If your child needs help with their academic progress or maybe just needs a place to complete or catch up on their homework a teacher will be with them from 3:15-4:30 on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Mrs. Payne (Tuesday) and Mrs. Russell (Thursday) will be tutoring and supporting students who are in need of a little assistance with their academics. If you have any questions about this opportunity please contact the front office and ask for Mr. Brown.

Supper Meals available to all Families on Tuesday & Thursday

Because we have open tutoring/computer lab we are able to offer supper meals to our students. If you would like your child to receive a supper meal please fill out this Supper Meal Form. Meals will begin on Tuesday, November 2nd. Again, meals are available on Tuesday's & Thursday's.

Weather and Student Clothing

As the weather changes and we add layers of clothes, we would like to remind parents to put either the initials or names of their child inside each jacket, sweatshirt, hat, coat, etc. We know that students will leave clothing items around campus on a daily basis. It is a HUGE help for the staff to be able to get the clothing items back to the students in a timely manner if we know who they belong to. Thank you for your help with this!

Potter Gray & BGISD Attendance Policy

Below is an outline of our school and district's attendance policy. Instructional hours at Potter Gray are from 8:00am-3:00pm. If your child gets to school late (after 8:00am) they are considered tardy.

To excuse absences or tardies we must receive a written note (examples: doctors note, hand written parent note, or an email). Once the note is received by the front office, the attendance code is changed within Infinite Campus from an unexcused absence/tardy to an excused absence/tardy. If a child is quarantined due to Covid, once the quarantine or positive case is confirmed, those absences are automatically adjusted and do not require a written note.

At weeks end, Mr. Brown prints attendance letters and mails them to the parents of students who have either 3, 5 or 7 unexcused absences/tardies. If you receive one of these letters please communicate with the front office to provide proper paperwork for the absences on record.

  1. Death or severe illness in the student’s immediate family;
  2. Illness of the student;
  3. Documented military leave/return of a parent or guardian;
  4. Other valid reasons as determined by the Principal, including trips qualifying as educational enhancement opportunities.

A student is allowed 5 days excused with parent notes and 7 days with doctor notes per school year. After 7 doctor notes have been used, the district medical excuse form must be submitted for excused absences and/or tardies. Parent and doctor notes must be turned in to the school within 72 hours of the student’s absence.

CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM: Missing more than 10% of the school year, or 17 days, for any reason, excused or unexcused. TRUANCY: A student who has been absent or tardy without a valid excuse for three or more days is considered truant. A student reported as a truant two or more times is a habitual truant. Students reaching the status of habitual truant can expect a home visit from a school district official. Continuing absences or tardies will result in referral to the court system.

Ident-a-Kid Visitor Sign-in

We ask all adults who would like to come in to our building at any point during the day to walk their child to their rooms or eat with them in the cafeteria to sign-in using the Ident-a-Kid system in the front office. Thank you for your understanding.
