Lowell Middle School Welcomes – HIGHSTRUNG
We had the great opportunity and privilege of hosting Rapper “Highstrung” for a school wide meet and greet presentation. Highstrung’s “Strung on Knowledge” educational tour gives kids the opportunity to hear the history and background of rapper Highstrung as he went from good to great and accomplished life changing goals as a kid, student, and young adult. His motivational performance and words of encouragement helps give kids the strength to turn “IMPOSSIBLE” to “I’M-POSSIBLE.” Thank you Highstrung for changing the lives of so many kids and continuing to reach back and give to the community.

Kona Truck! - Raspas in the Winter? YES, PLEASE!
The top MSP performers in the category of “Growth” were invited to enjoy a cold afternoon with Raspas from the famous “Kona Truck”. Coach Castano does like to travel the world and spent 40 days overseas exploring culturally diverse parts of the world including Egypt. In this picture he wears what is known as a “Galabeya” which is a traditional Egyptian garment commonly worn in Cairo. He explained the strict Egyptian drug laws and the also shared stories about the pyramids and what he learned about Egypt and its people.

State Capitol – Austin Texas
Lowell and Poe are joined together through “Raise Up Texas” and the combined school field trip helped bring us closer as we both “Raise Up” to greatness. Thank you Poe middle school for being great travel buddies and making this trip one to remember. We will definitely partner up with you for future trips. Where to next Tigers?
Institute of Texan Cultures
Middle School Partners – 8th grade Bridge to Promotion took a trip to the UTSA – ITC to get a new perspective from experts in the field on the history of Texas. Many flags flew over Texas in its history and all made Texas the great state that it is today. MSP Students were able to see what life was like and the daily struggles of living and surviving in early Texas. Thank you ITC for hosting us and bringing social studies to life!
Team Building at LMS
Team building is a huge focus this year with the previous year SAISD mini grant awarded by the SAISD Foundation. In this activity, kids have to navigate the path of numbers and work together as a team using good memory to find the path from start to finish. Moves include up, down, left, right, and diagonal. Team building can help kids work together and it’s a great way to create “small wins” that your MSP family can enjoy and celebrate together as one team with one vision.
Community in Schools – Food Drive
Pallets containing boxes of food were dropped off at the Lowell MS parking lot and were organized and prepared for community members to come pick up absolutely “FREE”. No car? No problem! We even did a block walk and reached out to members in our community who needed us to go above and beyond and made a few deliveries. Special thanks to Football, Basketball, Soccer, & Track and Field super star “Jordan” for carrying this heavy box of food from Lowell Middle School to our neighbor’s home.
Holiday Fun and Games – Sponsored by Communities in Schools
How fast can you unwrap a multilayered gift covered in wrapping paper and saran wrap while wearing gloves? Students had just a few seconds to unwrap mystery gifts as fast as they could while the student next to them rolled dice. As soon as the student next to them rolled a “double”, time was up and they had to take off the gloves and pass the gift and gloves to the next person. We had all kinds of prizes including Bluetooth speakers, superhero themed socks, and a helicopter drone. Special thanks to Ms. Sarah for bringing the joy of the holidays to MSP.

Its Fishing Season!
Well its always fishing season at Lowell Middle School. Thanks to the SAISD Foundation, Lowell Middle School is the recipient of another SAISD mini grant. The program is called “Fishers of Men” and it allows students the opportunity to build healthy relationships with school leaders by going on fishing trips. Fishing locations include South Side Lions Park and Miller’s Pond. These two fishing locations are sponsored by Neighborhood Fishin’, an organization that helps create local fishing spots in town so kids can get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Fish are stocked at these locations on a bi-weekly schedule and include “Catfish” and “Rainbow Trout”. The bag limit is 5 of each for the day and there is no size limit. All Middle School Partners students at all SAISD Middle School campuses are invited to go on these trips. Please schedule a trip with your Partner’s Teacher today.
