Assuring Learning Excellence and Readiness for a Changing World
We survived the Polar Vortex, maybe that should be a staff t-shirt? I don't ever recall having 4 consecutive school days called due to weather, even the postal service was shut down! (Although, I know from personal experience that Fed-Ex was still delivering.)
I hope that "bonus" winter break provided you with some extra quality time at home, but I am so happy to have everybody back in the building. I missed everybody!
Shining Scarlets
Thank you, teachers, who nominated students for our Shining Scarlet award. Shining Scarlet essays are due Tuesday, February 5. Shining Scarlet breakfast is this Friday, February 8th. This is a great event to connect with parents and celebrate our hard working Scarlets!
The breakfast begins at 7:00am; program begins at 7:15am and usually lasts about 30 minutes. You are welcome to come whenever you are able. If you are coming after 7:15, please use the cafeteria door nearest the receiving room to enter, as that will allow you to come in and get breakfast without disrupting the program. Hope to see you there!
Snow Week
Snow Week will be the week of February 11 - 15. Student Council is working hard to get all of the festivities in order. Thank you Mr. Sheldrup and Ms. Mastromano! The pep fest will be Wednesday, February 6th, at 8:15am in the auditorium to announce dress-up days and the King candidates.
Juniors and Seniors will be voting for King candidates during Scarlet time on Tuesday, February 12.
The Snow Week Volleyball Tournament will be held in the gym on Monday, February 11th at 7:30pm. On Friday, February 15, we will have an alternate schedule with 33 minute class periods in the morning, and school-wide activities in the afternoon, culminating with the crowning of our Snow King.
More information on Snow Week will be coming in the next News and Notes.

Conferences
Adaptability, core value #5! Thank you for being flexible and supporting the date change for conferences. One thing we have added to the winter conference night, which brings in additional families, is having our counselors present registration meetings for families. In order for these meetings to have meaning, it is helpful if the counselors have already been in classrooms to go over the registration process with students. Those meetings were scheduled for this past week, leading us into conference night on the 4th. Missing four school days required those meetings to be rescheduled, thus needing to reschedule conferences.
I know some of you have only had your students for five days now, so hopefully pushing conferences back allows you to get to know your students a bit better before conferences.
Conferences will be Monday, February 11th from 3:30 - 7:30. There will be a registration meeting for families with students in grades 9-11 at 5:00 in the auditorium. There will be AP meetings in the cafeteria at 4:30 and 6:40. The dinner breaks will be as follows:
2nd floor: 5:00
3rd floor: 5:30
1st floor and annex: 6:00
During conference night, our 8th grade families will be coming to a registration meeting at 6:30pm in the auditorium.
You may have students coming to visit you during conferences to find out more about the classes you teach to help them make informed decisions when registering. Please welcome those students and have information available to them about your courses.
Champion Students
How did your Champion Student do 1st semester? Next week, we will have the data to see if we made our goal of 55% of those students passing all of their classes.
As we approach conferences, please call your Champion Student's parents and invite them to conferences on February 11th. You are welcome to call more parents to invite them to come, but we need everyone to call their Champion Student's parents and make a personal invite.
