The Dakota People

The first in Minnesota

How the Dakota showed Tiyospaye and Wohoda

Tiyospaye is Dakota for extended family. They showed this by treating their friends and neighbors like family. Wohoda means respect and courtesy tribe members would show this by lowering their eyes when children saw the elders and respecting each others privacy.

Other interesting facts about the Dakota people.

The Dakota were the first people in Minnesota. In the winter the children would go sledding on sleds made of bison. Story tellers would tell stories on how or why things happened.
