LEARNING/TEACHING CORNER....FROM TERRI MILLER'S DESK
Teachers need to learn to observe students’ reading behaviors and learn to make momentary decisions about how to guide them to engage in problem solving that expands their reading skill. The teacher must learn to make decisions that work toward a goal of helping students think and act for themselves—and not focus on the reading being done correctly. Literacy Footprints is a site that you can visit to see example videos of the components in our Guided Reading lesson plans. Please take a look at this site to see how these videos can help us reach our goal of 75% of our students reading on or above grade level by the end of the ‘19-’20 school year. If you need a password to access these videos, please come see me.
Here are some Literacy Center Ideas for K-2 teachers.
This is an example of a simple one day K-2 Corner Rotation Chart. If you are interested in this one, please let me know. I have the other days of the week as well so that students can experience ALL corners throughout the week.
This one could be a Grades 2-5 Rotation Chart that has slides for transition time and works well for flex grouping. You also have some examples on our JC Literacy Site.
If you don’t mind sharing your digital rotation chart, please send a copy to me and I will upload it to our Google Drive.
The time between Diagnostics is when learning and growth happen. Motivate your students to try their best during Online Instruction and explain their new dashboard with Getting Students Ready for Online Instruction PPT Presentation!

Pineapple Calendar
Don’t forget to visit your colleagues to see all the wonderful learning that goes on in our building! PT students rock! When you visit a classroom, please fill out a note card in my room with a positive comment on the learning that you observed. Remember, you will need to visit at least one classroom per quarter. Put the note card in the basket on top of my bookshelf so that I can mark your name off. Make sure that you put your name in the top left corner of the envelope so that I know who the card is from.
Come see me if you have any questions or concerns. Let me know how I can further support you and your students in your classroom.
You are FABULOUS!
