Math-Sage n' Scribe
You may have hear your children talking about an activity called Sage n' Scribe. We love to do this activity during math. One partner is the coach, and the other does the writing. The coach leads the partner pair in completing the problem. Then the jobs switch! Each person gets a chance to be the coach.
Ten Frames
Using Ten Frames to help us make ten is a great tool to learn the making ten strategy. When you have an addition problem, and you can make ten in your head, it will help you solve the problem quickly!
Commutative Property
Backwards and forwards it is still the same! 9+5 is the same as 5+9.
Misc. Items
Our whole first grade class now has an AR reading goal for the second quarter. Your child should be reading books that are just right for him/her. They know what level is best for them to choose books from to read. Please encourage your child to take an AR test when he or she has read a book twice. A slip of paper went home last week in your child's Friday folder. The paper states your child's reading level and AR goal for the second quarter.
Students also should be studying their Otter Creek and spelling words at night, as well as filling in their reading log.
Speaking of Otter Creek...I spilled some coffee on the class' Otter Creek from yesterday! They were very forgiving and did not get too upset with me :) We will retest today, since I did not want to give them crinkled, coffee stained papers. Here is a photo to capture the moment!
Top Dog-Aleeyah!
This week our Top Dog was Aleeyah! She shared her favorite place to go is her Grandma's house. She also loves cake and pizza, and her dog Lucky! Thanks for sharing, Aleeyah!
FYI
This afternoon, during our lunchtime, the fire alarm went off. This was a fluke, and there was not any danger to the students. Once the alarm was noted as false, the students were let back into the building.
