A Message From the Principal
Dear Cather Families:
There may be some occasions when attending school due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances may not be advisable. Student safety and learning is always the top priority for Millard Public Schools. With that in mind, Millard Public Schools will utilize a few options including 1) eLearning Days 2) Late Starts and 3) cancelling school. Late Start and eLearning days will not need to be made up at the end of the school year.
The District will communicate with staff and families when we may need to utilize one of these options. Announcements related to using any of the above options will be made on the radio and TV stations by 6 a.m. The announcement will also be posted on Millard’s website: www.mpsomaha.org. Parents and staff will also receive automated phone calls, texts and emails from our automated system. Typically, phone calls occur after 6:00 a.m., depending on when the decision is made.
Late start days will begin exactly 2 hours later than the normal school start time. When weather permits for a later start, the streets, sidewalks and parking lots can be better cleared and rush hour traffic can be complete. On typical school days, our Cather doors open at 8:00 a.m., walking club starts at 8:10 a.m. and students may go to class at 8:20 a.m. School starts at 8:30 a.m. On late start days the Cather doors will open at 10:00 a.m., walking club 10:10 a.m. and students may go to class at 10:20 a.m. School will start at 10:30 a.m. We will have Grab and Go breakfast available for students that did not eat breakfast available outside the office, which will consist of a breakfast bar and milk. Our lunch schedule will remain the same. For additional information, please refer to the District Inclement Weather website at:
https://sites.google.com/mpsomaha.org/mpselearningdays/home-page
During an eLearning Day (students do not attend school) it allows for the scope and sequence of the coursework to stay on track and minimize disruptions to the learning process by leveraging technology, digital tools and other educational resources. For additional information please refer to the FAQ section of the website above.
You can expect these things to occur for an eLearning day from Cather Elementary.
- Teachers will talk with students and parents prior to the eLearning day at conferences to clearly explain what eLearning day procedures are for students.
- You can expect eLearning day assignments to take 30-60 minutes to complete.
- Teachers will be checking their emails periodically from 8:30 a.m until 3:00 p.m. to answer any questions that students and/or parents have.
- Students will have 2 days to complete the eLearning assignment and hand it in.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kreager

CATHER ELEMENTARY PERFORMANCE RESULTS
The chart above is our MAP assessment performance over time as a building in the area of Mathematics. We have much to celebrate with our results! Our students and staff have been working hard to improve achievement. The blue line below is the district, the yellow line is Cather students. If you look at 19-20 you can see we are already above where we ended the school year last year. Great job!
AQuESTT Rating Score 3 - Great.
AQuESTT is our state rating score based on growth, performance, ELL and attendance. We didn’t receive our bump up to a 4 due to absences and growth. We are proud to continue to be one of the highest performing schools in the district. The absences had an impact on growth, performance and ELL. Students with extended leave absences impact the student performance, as well as our building performance. We had 488 extended leave days absent for vacations. We continue to have goals to improve tardiness and absences. AQuESTT highlights the things we know from research that accelerate and amplify learning for students: attending school, being on track for graduation, progressing in proficiency for EL students, growing as an individual student, and improving as a grade level. These are indicators that we know matter.
NSCAS - STATE ASSESSMENTS GRADE 3-5.
We have reached a point where the state and Millard standards and NSCAS assessments in ELA and mathematics are at a high level of rigor. That is a good thing for students. We want our students to be able to read, write, think, and succeed in mathematics at the highest levels. We have adopted curriculum materials in mathematics, aligned Saxon Mathematics lessons to improve rigor and English Language Arts that match this level of increased rigor.
Achievement on NSCAS is an indicator of proficiency on these new rigorous standards.
