Orana Catholic Primary School

Week 7, Term 3, 2020

Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity. Respect is valuing ourselves and others. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy.

A Prayer for Father's Day

Gracious God,

Bless fathers and all father figures with such love and faithfulness that children flourish and grow in uprightness and joy,

Bless those who find this day difficult, may your love and strength be with all on this day.

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

I arrived at school bright and early to see a tribe of busy volunteers preparing for the first community event we have been able to hold in such a long time. My heart skipped a beat! Following close behind me was a tribe of willing staff members who eagerly put their hand up to support this event. The collaboration and commitment of the P&F volunteers and staff of Orana was beautiful to see this morning. More importantly, the loving connection noticeable between our fathers, and father figures with the children along with friendly conversation within our community was heart warming.

Thank you to those who helped and thank you to those who attended and maintained appropriate physical distancing in such a respectful manner.

Father's Day can hold many emotions for both men and women - those who had a loving father that passed away, those who never knew their dad, those expectantly waiting to become a dad soon, and countless other situations surrounding the father-child relationship. God can use this special day to draw us closer to Himself - the one true Father who remains faithful and full of unconditonal love. I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of love and laughter with your loved ones.

During the week the Year 3s and 4s had an incursion presented by the RAC. The presenter commented on how well behaved, well mannered and attentive the children were. Quinn and Domenic from Year 4 were the “Meet and Greet “ team who welcomed the presenter in the car park and showed her around the school. She commented that Orana was the only school where she has been welcomed by students and that their manners were exemplary. Living up to the meaning of Orana - “Welcome”. We pride ourselves on the welcoming environment that visitors to our school feel when they enter. Congratulations Quinn and Dominic for living up to the values of Orana.

CAPSS Interschool Lightning Carnival - Miss Dennett

The Year 5 and 6 students competed in this years Lightning Carnival on Tuesday 1st September. This is the first Interschool sporting event for the year and the students were excited despite the challenging weather conditions. Students competed in their nominated sport of Netball, Soccer, Volleyball and League Tag.

Orana CPS had some encouraging results and most importantly the students enjoyed the experience and learnt a great deal from the day.

The Orana netball teams placed 8th (Orana B2), 9th (Orana B1) and 10th (Orana A) out of twelve teams and Soccer finished 6th (Orana A) and 7th (Orana B) out of eight teams.

The League Tag teams placed 3rd (Orana A), 6th (Orana B1) and 9th (Orana B2) out of twelve teams with our Volleyball A team placing 2nd and our B team placing 5th out of six teams.

A special thank you to all the staff and parent helpers who have given up their time to prepare the students leading up to the carnival and their efforts on the day. Also to our parent spectators your attendance is greatly appreciated. Lastly, a special thank you to our students. The support, encouragement and sportsmanship shown meant the day was a huge success for everyone involved.

Well done to all!

The Orana Community Mass and Holy Communion Commitment Mass will be held on Saturday at 5pm. The opportunity to be able to pray and reflect together as a community is a blessing.

BOOK FAIR - Week 8

It is not too late to join the Book Fair Fun! Please send along a permission slip to be involved. This year, it will take a different format than usual with students purchasing from the Fair during their Library lessons. Thank you so much for supporting our endeavours to keep the love of books and reading high on their agenda.

There is excitement building in the air as the Year 6 students and many staff members from across the school prepare for the iPad conference on Thursday. Not only are we welcoming Yidarra and Queen of Apostles students, there are educators from other schools coming to see how we conduct our conference. There is a buzz in the air. We are looking forward to sharing the highlights with you in next weeks newsletter.

Quote of the week

Every kind act is a prayer, Blessed Mother Teresa

God bless,

Emma Bell

Short-term Principal

Did you know that our wonderful teachers here at Orana do something very special to help others? Twice a term our teachers stay back at school and cook trays and trays of lasagne and take them into the city at night to give to the homeless. These people often have nowhere to live and no food. They are very grateful to receive a hot meal, a drink, some fruit and sometimes toiletries. This is a living example of generosity, compassion and ensuring all people are looked after.

We would like to assist our teachers by raising money to buy the lasagnes by holding a Rice Day on Thursday 17th September. Students will be provided with 2 rice cakes for lunch and in return donate $2. If you would also like to donate a packet of rice cakes it would be very much appreciated. A box will be available in the Year 4W classroom for you to put them in. Further details will be provided closer to the day.

Thank you for supporting this worthy cause.
