About Me
My name is Georgia Vasilakis and I am a first generation Greek American that has grown up in Southeast Texas. My parents emigrated from Greece, hence my name. I'm named after my paternal grandmother as tradition and definitely not after the state.
I am beginning my 8th year as an Educator, and my 2nd year at Memorial High School where I'm currently teaching Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Pre-Ap, and Algebra I EOC remediation. I taught 4 years in Lumberton, TX, 2 years in Beaumont, and am certified in Math 8-12, Composite Science 8-12, Special Education K-12, and have various ESL training.
I'm beginning my 5th semester in the Master of Science program in Instructional Technology and anticipating to graduate in May of 2016. Education is truly my passion and I'm preparing my application to begin a PhD program next year in August of 2016.
I'm a full time teacher and graduate student, so my free time is limited yet jam packed. I do alot of volunteer work with my church where I'm currently the treasurer of our Ladies Auxiliary Group and coordinate the Mediterranean Festival here in Beaumont.
I enjoy reading, strength training, yoga, and cooking. I'm very close to my family- parents, brother, sister-n law, 3 nieces, 8 god-daughters, and my friends.
Technology in Teaching & Learning
I learned about Twitter last semester and utilized it among my Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Pre-AP students. I would like to continue to learn more about Twitter as it has significantly improved my interactions with my students.
