Here's what's happening in the IF Library Media Center!
September 2013
Seeing Old Friends and Meeting New Ones
It was great to see all our students after our long summer vacation. They shared stories of exciting trips, adventures at home and books they explored. We spent our first week reviewing library procedures, listening to book talks and of course selecting our first books of the school year. We start September with MAP testing for students in grades 2-5. Students can check out books before or after school. Regular book check-out will resume on Tuesday, September 17.

Summer Reading Program
Battle of the Books
Fourth and fifth grade students may begin registering for Battle of the Books. The complete list of titles is located on the IF LMC Battle of the Books webpage. Paper copies can be obtained in the library. The last day to sign up is October 31, 2013. Please e-mail me if you have further questions or concerns.
ROAR: "Reach out and Read"
This is a great opportunity for kindergarten and first grade students and their parents to spend time together in the IF library. Learn about our available resources and check out extra reading materials to use at home. Our ROAR group is held on the second Wednesday of each month from 8:00-8:30 a.m. Watch your child's backpack for an informational flyer. Our first meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. We needed to push back the start date due to MAP testing.
Mission Read
We are in need of students to help with our K-1 family literacy night on Wednesday, October 16 from 6:30-7:30. Students will be assisting at reading centers throughout the night. Please see Mrs. Kuehl if you are interested in helping.
Looking for Good Books to Read?
Each year the Illinois School Library Media Association selects a list of twenty outstanding books geared towards students in grades K-2 and 3-5. The Monarch list contains titles appropriate for students in grades K-2 and the Bluestem list focuses on reading material for students in grades 3-5. The Isaac Fox library sponsors a reading incentive program for students who read these titles. Additional information regarding the program can be obtained in the Media Center. Ask your child to bring home the Monarch and/or the Bluestem reading log. More information about the books can be found on the website below.
