Final Newsletter for 2015-2016
So Long 2015-2016
When you return in August, we will hit the ground running to continue with the work we have done in PLC, disaggregating data and finding resources for all students. We will continue to tighten our discipline and introduce a merit system to reward students for good deeds and behavior. We will continue to find ways to build this culture and increase pride and school spirit at HiRMS.
Preliminary data looks good and shows the growth that we have made. While I stand behind that a single test does not define teachers or students, it serves as a reference point of what and how we are doing…one reference point. We will continue to unpack standards and ensure that we are differentiating for each child. We will continue to support you as you provide for them.
Finally, in the coming days you will learn of an initiative HiRMS will implement over the next few years called Capturing Kids Hearts. The founder of the corporation, Flip Flippen believes, “if you capture a kids heart, you will capture their head!” A profound statement with such a depth of truth…we will continue to strive to build the relationships with each student. In a story you will hear Tuesday, the person that changed my path did not do it until I was a freshmen and 14! It is never too late, they are never too far gone…and kids will move mountains for you if they know you care.
On behalf of this administration, we wish you a Happy Summer Break! So many of you have counted down to the end and deservedly so…we count down until you and students return…in 46 more weekdays!

Math 1 and 2 Testing!
As most of you know, our Math I & Math 2 kids are testing on Monday. They will be testing from about 9-2. I need all 6th & 7th grade teachers to walk their kids to encore and keep them at a level 0. I need all encore teachers to be out in the halls to help with keeping them quite during testing. This test counts as 20% of their final grade for their class since it’s a high school course, so we need them to focus and not be distracted.
ALL Grade levels, grade teachers, please DO NOT have your kids out in the grass between the two wings or on the soccer fields during the testing time AND have a discussion with them about keeping their voices low during the walk after lunch (no screaming).
Finally, the Math I & Math 2 classes have reserved the soccer fields for the afternoon once they are finished testing to give those kids an opportunity to celebrate/unwind from their testing. They have worked hard and continued to review while all others have been able to be outside this past week so please allow them the opportunity to enjoy on this day and refrain from going on those fields.
Thanks for your assistance with this!
