Sheldon ISD Science and Technology Fair
The SISD elementary science/tech fair is on January 11th at Carroll from 4:30 - 7:30 pm. Our secondary students involved in technology activities will be there to exhibit their work as well. They will be showing off what they have learned in their EV3 robotics electives, their coding projects from clubs, their STEM engineering projects with data, pictures, and video on the websites they created, and even their 3-D printing projects! Some of the projects they have been working on are shown below. It is sure to be a great event. A big THANKS goes out to the teachers who invested time and effort in working with students on their projects.
Makey Makey and Scratch
Check out student-coded programs in Scratch, operated by Makey-Makey.
Sphero
Watch students program sphero to navigate through an obstacle course.
Kano Computer
Observe our Kano Computer girls set up and connect their own computer, and then navigate all of the options it has!
Making Connections with Google Hangouts
Hangouts is a great tool to take your students outside of the four walls of their classroom and connect with others to further their learning experience. A link to a the recent district PD is below for your reference.
What are some good reasons to connect with with others via Hangouts?
- classroom to classroom: connect with another class in another school to share learning - this could be lab results, book talks, mystery hanoguts, etc.
- connect with experts! We have hung out with an Alamo educator live at the Alamo, Justin Stapleton - meteorologist from KPRC, a Civil War expert, and world-renowned Professor John Kappelman from UT.
- Hangouts as a teaching tool.
- Hangouts as a presentation tool.
WeVideo for Student Products
One of the 4 C's of 21st Century Learning is Creativity. One way that you can allow for student creativity is to assign projects where students have to create something to represent and synthesize their learning. WeVideo is a great tool for this - it allows students to create multi-media video presentations complete with images, text, and music.
WeVideo is a highly recommended tool for video creation on chromebooks and integrates with Google Classroom and Google Drive. Remember to always design a rubric for any student products and provide it to students while they are working.
Check out the video below for a WeVideo introduction. It was made for a group of teachers and students who had an assignment to research various aspects of slavery in America and prepare a visual representation of their research. It was created on a chromebook so you can see where and how to save images.
