Fabulous in Fourth
Mrs. Christopher, January 2015
Happy New Year!
January has already been a roller coaster with this crazy weather and back to school time! I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and a happy welcome to the new year. Instead of traditional resolutions this year, our class blogged about taking on a 12 Month Challenge - setting a goal to achieve once a month for this year that affects and makes a difference in someone else's life. I hope to see some smiles from this goal this year! :)
We will be taking our Winter MAP assessments this week. Our Reading test will be on Tuesday at 11:00 and Math on Wednesday at 11:00. We will be reviewing our goals beforehand so students can have their target in mind as they take their tests. I am fully confident in all of them and know we are going to see great results!
We are very lucky to have a visit to Gower West from author, Barb Rosenstock on January 29. Mrs. Rosenstock is the author of The Camping Trip That Changed America, Thomas Jefferson's Library, and Streak to name a few. During her visit, we are lucky to have a few students share a lunch and casual conversation with her. Students need to write a short proposal telling why they should be picked for the luncheon. Also, a handful of students from both third and fourth grades will be picked to be a part of a Writer's Workshop lesson led by Mrs. Rosenstock herself! I hope many of our students submit their proposals to be a part of this amazing opportunity. Both of these forms are available in our class and due by this Thursday, Jan. 22. I have a few in already. Finally, if you would like a signed copy of her book, please send the book in on the 29th with a post-it that includes: Student Name, Teacher Name, and to whom you'd like the author to sign the book. Thank you!!
PTO Gower Science Fair and STEM Challenge
Thursday, Feb. 12th, 6:30pm
Gower Middle School, Burr Ridge, IL, United States
Burr Ridge, IL
This is an exciting night and I hope to see many faces participating in the STEM Challenge. Information was sent to you with an RSVP to sign up to be a part of the activities. Also, we are looking for empty paper towel or wrapping paper tubes to use for one of the challenges. We need a lot so if you can send in any, we'd very much appreciate it! Thank you and I hope to see you there!
If you child is working on all the Bluestem books, the list of the books they read is due by Feb. 10. The LRC party for those who read all the books will be on February 17. Well done to those participating!
Six Flags Reading
This is a great way to achieve a goal and earn a ticket to Six Flags for this summer. I know I've put those tickets to use! Six hours of reading is the only requirement - amazing! Looking forward to seeing a lot of those forms in soon!
We have our next Mystery Skype planned for Friday, January 30. Cannot wait to see where this class spends their days!
