Humane Society Representative To Visit Morning Prayer !

On Wednesday, March 16th at our All-School morning prayer session (8:00 a.m.), the kindergarten group will be presenting gifts and donated items to the Pasadena Humane Society. The children worked very hard to make cat beds, cat toys, and dog biscuits in last week's rotations and they did a great job of collecting towels for the Used Towel Drive. A Pasadena Humane Society Representative will join us for the presentation during morning prayer to receive all of the gifts and donations from the kindergartners.

Thank you to all of the parents, family and friends who helped us work on the special gifts we plan to give to the Pasadena Humane Society. The Humane Society Representative will visit with the kindergartners after morning prayer has concluded.

Math- In math this week we began learning about sorting. We defined it as putting things in groups where they belong. One child said it was "like organizing socks"! :) We also learned that you can sort by attributes, such as: shape, color, size, or kind. We did lots of hands-on sorting as we got in to groups based on our hair color, uniform color, eye color, or kind (boys/girls and food groups).

Religion- During religion this week, we will be learning about the Trinity. We will use St. Patrick's example of the shamrock to teach about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, three in one.

Guidance- Dr. Pannell defined teamwork for the kindergartners in her lesson last week. The children practiced the concept of cooperation by making shapes with their bodies in a group.

Language Arts- The kindergartners are finished working on Letter "W" and will move onto Letters "K and Q" this week in class. For the letter "W", the SuperKids discussed traveling to make-believe planets that had names such as the "Hot Planet" and "Planet Wump".

"Take this and share among yourselves; for I tell you [that] from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. " Luke 22. 17-18

This week's Sunday Gospel will address Holy Week, how Jesus spent his last days before his death and the Gospel will also cover his resurrection to a new life. Holy Week celebrates the new life of Jesus and building Christian community.

Pope Francis has proclaimed this the "Year of Mercy" and we can all live by Jesus' example of showing love and compassion to the downtrodden and oppressed.

Mercy Challenge- In keeping with the spirit of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, we encourage our parents to think about the following Works of Mercy during the upcoming week:

Corporal Works of Mercy:
  • Feed the Hungry

Spiritual Works of Mercy:

  • Instruct the ignorant (to share knowledge)

These are simple acts of Mercy each of us can strive for in our daily lives.
