The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting

Descripition Of The Amendment

A.The First Amendment was written because at America’s inception, citizens demanded a guarantee of their basic freedoms.



B. The amendment in my own words means that we have the right to say what ever we want and gather when ever we need and to vote.

Supreme Court Case

1. In Everson v. Board of Education (1947


2.The case involved a New Jersey public school board’s decision to pay for the cost of transporting children to and from Catholic schools.


3.The Supreme Court ruled that the government money could pay the costs of transporting children to religious institutions (the Catholic schools) because the state had an interest in transporting children
