Homeroom Teachers: I would ask that you help us decorate for the November 9th Veterans Day Program by creating patriotic student art for your bulletin boards. This can be your November bulletin board. Thank you in advance for your help getting us ready for this special event.
Ants:
On Monday, our exterior was treated for ants by a new company. Donald also applied bait directly to many of the piles. We are hopeful that this will limit the ant population on our campus because right now there are a ton of piles all around.

Julie Manciagli's daughter in law received her PhD in aquaculture on Wednesday. Way to go!
My son, Alex, received his acceptance to AU this week. Alex will be 5th generation to attend Auburn. I'm super proud!
Happy Birthday
Carrie has been a welcome addition to our Enrichment Team. Carrie works with 3rd grade and is only here part of the day on Tuesday - but serves other ACS schools each day. I really appreciate Carrie's willingness to be flexible with her schedule this year in order to serve the students of ACS.
Adam has been maintaining all things tech at YES for many years. He is efficient and knowledgeable in his craft. I really appreciate the daily effort - but especially during our high volume times of the year when he troubleshoots multiple computer needs. Adam is always glad to help with tech needs - but please fill out a work order so we can document the work that he is does for ACS.
Teacher of the Year
Laura Rubin
I love how Laura is a learner even as a teacher. Just when you think she has it down, she sees a better idea and implements it in her classroom. Laura has spearheaded the 360 degrees classroom this year by putting up dry erase boards around the classroom for each student. I have seen personally how each student enjoys math and learns from the teacher along with their shoulder partners as they practice their math concepts. She is engaging as a teacher and goes all in with the Positivity Project within her classroom, as well.
Have you been in Laura Rubin’s classroom lately? If not, you need to stop by and see her students putting the 360 classroom in action. Even though Laura has been teaching fifth grade math for many years, she is always looking to improve her instruction and her connection with students. She is a leader in the system, and her opinion is often sought out by others. Not only is Laura passionate about her students learning math, but she also values the total school culture. She helps with the Positivity Project pep rallies, Our House, and the sunshine committee. She supports her current and past students by attending their sporting, arts, and church events. Laura should be considered for Teacher of the Year because of the impact she has on her students and our school.
Sarah Sandersen
Sarah wears all the hats, wears them well, and is an amazing teacher while doing it. She is constantly making smart decisions for her students. She makes learning fun and meaningful. I've only worked across the hall from her for two months, and I've already learned so many great things.
Sarah puts 110% into every day with her students. She is consistently coming up with creative ideas to teach the standards, and she challenges other teachers around her to come up with new and innovative ways to help a student understand a concept. She excels in room transformations and leads our school in the Positivity Project, exemplifying it fully in her classroom. She goes over and beyond to prepare for pep rallies come up with new and engaging ideas each time.
Lindsay Smith
Lindsay is one of the most loving and patient teachers at Yarbrough. She works with many of our special friends who have unique and often demanding needs, yet she rarely complains and almost always has a smile on her face. She uses humor and grace to make hard days (and children) seem less difficult. Lindsay has high expectations for her students and believes they can be successful. She differentiates her instruction with each individual or small group. Even though she works with two grade levels this year, she juggles it all with professionalism and hard work. Her students know they are loved, and they know she believes in them. Lindsey Smith definitely deserves the recognition of Teacher of the Year.
Jessica McMurray
I would like to nominate Jessica McMurray for teacher of the year. Jessica is a huge supporter of her team. She works tirelessly to create resources that will benefit all students. She is always going above and beyond to help and support not only her students but all YES. She brings the curriculum to life by planning real world lessons and experiences for her students to take part in, whether that is through room transformations, hands on activities, or guest speakers. Her ability to build relationships and make connections with all her students is exceptional and admirable. I believe Jessica is truly deserving of the Teacher of the Year award.
Tina Williams
Tina is constantly sharpening herself as a teacher to see what the students need the most. She cares about her students and does so well with small group time. She starts each day with engaging, student-centered activities and continues through the day to find ways to educate each child in her room.
New Additions:
Heather Cowell
Heather is always so positive, has a smile on her face, and dedicates so much time for others. She has a tremendous amount of experience in several areas of education including math, reading, and ELL. Heather is seen on a daily basis going above and beyond to form relationships with not only her students, but their families as well. She does anything and everything she can to make sure her students are getting the education, services, and care they need. She clearly loves what she does as exhibited in her enthusiastic and detailed lessons. Heather, would be a great representative for Teacher of the Year for Yarbrough.
Tamara Teel
Tamara is a dedicated and enthusiastic educator who strives to create an engaging learning environment for all students at Yarbrough Elementary. She really goes the extra mile to make sure the students of Yarbrough Elementary are challenged and supported through her instruction and personality. Tamara is highly organized and reliable; she surely deserves this award.
