A Peek at our Week...

~This week we prepared for our "field trip" to the North Pole by reading The Polar Express written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg. While many students have seen the movie or heard the book, not all have had an opportunity to experience the book independently and enjoy the illustrations close up and carefully. We had fun enjoying the book together. Along with reading the story we worked on cause and effect, making connections, and reviewed sequencing.

~In math we worked on expanded form. The children have naturally gravitated to a strategy that works best for them. They are all doing a wonderful job solving two digit addition problems!!

~In social studies we took our assessment on wants and needs. When we return in January we will switch back to science.

~In the computer lab the students were able to spend some more time engaged in Hour of Code activities. They also played a fun math fact game on the abcya website called Holiday Lights Math. Each correct math fact earned the students holiday lights to decorate their house. The more correct answers, the more lights to decorate with. The students really enjoyed this! (What a great way to disguise building math fact fluency!)

Polar Express...

We had a fun time traveling to the North Pole!! The students were each given a ticket to ride on the Polar Express and Santa had even stopped by on Wednesday night to leave a bell for each child!

Thank you...

A very special thank you to all the room parents who made today's holiday party so fun! What a great way to end the week. The students were able to switch classrooms for different activities. They enjoyed a sundae bar and a movie, games and a craft. Fun was had by all!!

Marble Party...

On Thursday we had another successful Marble Party! This time in our pajamas! The students had a blast, worked well together, and exhibited good sportsmanship!

Over Winter Break...

Please make sure your child is still reading daily. Practicing math facts would also be beneficial. A fun website to check out is Thank you for your continued support at home!

Star of the Week...Nick!

Nick loves to read! He plays many sports and hopes to play in the NHL someday! He also enjoys spending time with his family. He has a dog, a big sister, and lots of cousins! His favorite food is popcorn shrimp. Yum!

Great job, Nick!
