Come together for our meeting
SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Council)
We need your Voice! Public Comment happens at the beginning of the meeting
What is a SEPAC? What does a SEPAC do?
And more importantly, how does a SEPAC get things done?
We’re still trying to figure that out!
What we do know is that Massachusetts requires that every public school district has a SEPAC. SEPACs are as different as the communities they represent. There is jurisdictional business- things the SEPAC can and cannot do, but as a rule, SEPACs are focused on supporting Special education families on the journey of education.
We’re not professional advocates. We do not understand the Federal and State laws about special education. We don’t even know what Special Education programming across the districts looks like, but we are expert parents. Some of us have children with 504s and IEPs, and some of us do not. We all strive to be a positive force in our children’s education. That intention is the tie that binds us. We believe that the SEPAC can support parents, and right now, that’s our number one focus!
Who should attend a SEPAC meeting?
- Anyone in the district with a student or students with disabilities.
- Anyone with a student or students eligible for or receiving services under an IEP or 504 plan
- Anyone who would is interested in the role of SEPAC in our community and district schools
