PTO Note

Hello Parents! It is time to begin planning ahead for Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, which is 5/3-5/6. We would like to deliver one preferred $10 gift card to every staff member during this special week to show our appreciation for all they do for our students and school. Please review the list of available staff and click on the button to sign-up to donate for one or more. Please deliver all cards to the CMS front office, in an envelope addressed to: PTO-Sharline Martin, no later than Friday, 4/23. Please include your name in the envelope and what staff member it is for. Thank you in advance for your assistance in making this appreciation week a special event for our wonderful Cockrill staff!

Attention 7th Grade Parents

Our 7th grade students will participate in the STAAR Writing exam on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Please note there is no option to take the exam virtually, so all students will need to be physically at school on April 6th to take the exam. As in previous years, students may not have access to personal devices that access the internet during the exam. All students should bring their charged MacBook and we will let them know the appropriate time to use the device. Students should also bring their charging cord. Virtual learners will report to the library to receive a room assignment. We will have personnel in the front foyer helping students navigate the building as necessary. Students may bring a snack to have during the snack break. Students may bring a lunch from home or purchase a school lunch. The ELAR teachers are collecting school lunch counts so we are prepared that day. If your student will need a school lunch, please make sure your child tells his/her ELAR teacher. If a student is ill or quarantined and misses the exam on April 6th, we will offer make-up testing for the remainder of that week. Our teachers will be engaged in STAAR administration, so there will be no Zoom classes for 7th graders that day. The exam begins as quickly as we can get started in the morning and it is a 4 hour exam with a 30 minute lunch break. Our students are ready and we are confident they will do a great job!

Parents of virtual learners who would like for their student to ride a bus, need to register with Durham using the following process:

6th Grade to 7th Grade Immunizations Transition-Letter to Parent

Your student will need proof of the following new immunizations to pick up a grade schedule for the 2021- 2022 school year.

We're informing you well in advance to help you avoid possible vaccine shortages and long lines at immunization clinics in August. Your child's classroom assignment and/or schedule will be withheld next fall until his/her school immunization records are up-to-date.

**Please bring your child's complete immunization records and this letter with you to the doctor's office or immunization clinic and return the record to your campus nurse prior to August 12, 2021.

Please note: In the past, these immunization clinics would not turn anyone away, even if they had private insurance. Due to recent changes at the state level, these clinics can no longer provide immunizations to those with private insurance. If you have private insurance, it's important that you make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible to get your child's immunizations updated.

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/pertussis-containing vaccine (unless a booster dose received within the past five years for 7th grade, last 10 years for 8th )

  • Meningococcal vaccine (one dose after age 11 and every 5 years after last dose)

  • Varicella vaccine (two doses received on or after 1st birthday)

  • MMR vaccine (two doses received on or after 1st birthday)

  • Hepatitis A vaccine (two doses received on or after 1st birthday)

The vaccines listed above are required in addition to those required by earlier laws. A signed statement of varicella disease will count towards the varicella requirement.

It is necessary for your child to be in compliance before the start of school 2021/2022.
