Hamilton Southeastern Junior High School

Spring is here!

Isn't this weather great?! Spring is a very busy time for the HSJH Music Department, with several end-of-year performances and concerts in the upcoming weeks. The 2014-2015 School Year has been a very successful one for our music department, and we want to thank all of our students and stakeholders for their continued support. We certainly couldn't do what we do without all of you!

Next year will bring many changes, but we are excited to finish this year off strong! Thanks again for your support of music at Hamilton Southeastern Junior High!

Orchestra News

The HSJH Orchestras have had an exciting few months! Here are a few highlights:

*On March 13th, we were joined by clinician Susan Ellington. Students worked with Mrs. Ellington on their ISSMA Organizational Contest music and it was a WONDERFUL clinic!

*On Saturday, March 21st all three orchestras competed at the ISSMA Organizational Contest at Clay Middle School. All three orchestras played wonderfully and brought home solid GOLD ratings. Special kudos to the HSJH Chamber Orchestra for receiving the coveted GOLD "With Distinction" rating for the second year in a row!

*On Wednesday, April 29th the HSJH Chamber Orchestra joined with members of the Symphonic Band to create a full symphony orchestra and performed several pieces of music. It was a wonderful concert and the kids sounded great!

The final orchestra concert of the year will be on Monday, May 18th at 7pm in the HSJH Auditeria. Students should arrive at 6:15pm for warm-up. Please join us as we celebrate a fantastic year and wish our 8th grade students well as they transition to the high schools. See you there!

School Owned Instruments: Students who are using instruments owned by the school corporation will need to return those to Mr. Yoder after the final concert of the year for inventory and repair. ALL INSTRUMENTS OWNED BY THE SCHOOL MUST BE RETURNED. If you have questions, please email Mr Yoder. Thanks!

School Owned Instruments: If your son/daughter is renting a school owned instrument, and will be continuing in band at HSIJH next school year (2015-16), he/she may take it home over the summer. If your son/daughter is renting a school owned instrument, and will be going to a different junior high or to the high school next year, he/she will need to return the instrument to one of the HSJH band directors after the May 20th Spring band concert.

King's Island Reward Trip

The HSJH Music Department will be taking its annual reward trip to King's Island on Tuesday, June 2nd. The cost this year is $50 per person and includes the transportation to the park as well as a ticket into both King's Island and the King's Island Water Park. If your student is interested in going on this trip with us, please have them return the King's Island forms that they received in class along with a $50 check made out to HSJH.

Because this is a reward trip for our music students, please be aware that good behavior in school is expected. Students will be disqualified from going on this trip if discipline/behavior issues arise in school between now and the trip. Please see the King's Island packet for more details.

We are very excited to celebrate a great year with the students!
