Class of 2022 Weekly Review
Week of September 28, 2020
A Note from Mrs. Opdyke
It's finally here - the week where many of you will get to walk back into CB South after almost 7 months of learning at home. It has been, and I'm sure will continue to be, an ever changing experience for all of us. Remember to give yourself, your parents, your teachers, your counselors, and your principal (ahem!) some grace and patience. We are all learning with each day and most times presented with a situation that is new to us. We can and will get through this - together!
If you are returning to the building this week, I ask you to remember a few things to help everything go smoothly for all of us:
- Make sure you have a face covering to wear when in the building and when you cannot space yourself 6 feet from other people - yes, that includes walking in from your car or bus.
- Follow the hallway signs - stay to the right when it is not a one-way hallway, use the appropriate stairwell, and keep your physical distance from others as much as possible.
- Use the virtual sign in/sign out sheets. Just as you would sign in or out on paper, we will be asking you to do this via QR code.
- If you or someone in your household is sick - stay home! The benefit to the hybrid model is that if you feel well enough to do your work virtually, you can! Make sure to reach out to your teachers as soon as possible if you need to do this. But please remember that the expectation is that you are in physically in school on your Hybrid days.
Mr. Monk, Mrs. Davis, and I will continue to be here to help in any way that we can. Please reach out if you need anything! However you are joining us for your classes, I wish you a successful week 4 of the school year.
Please stay healthy and well!
Mrs. Opdyke
How Can We Help?
- If you have a question or concern with your student's 504 or IEP, it is best to contact their case manager directly. We will happily connect you if you need help with that.
- The traditional lunch period will not be occurring at CB South while in the hybrid model. We will have a 20 minute Snack & Wellness Break each day following Block 2. ALL students will have access to free grab and go breakfast and lunch. Please see below for specific details on this program.
- Look out this week for a video from CBSD that will highlight some of the changes at CB South and highlights of the Health & Safety Plan. Also, CB South will be putting out a special edition newsletter with specific information about the return to school plan.
We are here to help! Keep asking your questions and sharing your feedback.

Thanks for playing along!
Standardized Testing Timeline
October 17th – PSAT/NMSQT (Results in December)
December through June – Students should take the SAT and or the ACT at least one time along with SAT Subject tests if necessary. SAT and Act are not required by all colleges and universities; however, it may be wise to take one or both at least once in the event your son or daughter decides to apply to a school that does require scores. SAT Subject tests are often required by more selective colleges and universities.
Register at:
SAT - collegegboard.org
ACT - act.org
AP course exams: The exams take place during the first two weeks of May. Students work with their current AP teacher in joining the AP class through their Collegeboard account. Payment for the exams will begin at some point in January.
PSAT Information
The PSAT is the practice test for the SAT. It is offered one time every fall and is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship. We encourage all college bound juniors to take the PSAT. The PSAT will be held at South on Saturday, October 17th. The PSAT has two sections- Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. To learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT, please visit the CollegeBoard website.
To safely honor our District’s Health and Safety Plan and spacing requirements, the PSAT/NMSQT will be offered to JUNIORS ONLY this fall. The PSAT 10 will be offered to SOPHOMORES ONLY in the spring.
PSAT REGISTRATION begins at 8:00AM on Friday, September 11th through 11:59PM on Monday, October 5th through My Payments Plus (only).
The cost for the PSAT is $30 and registration must be completed through MyPaymentsPlus. Price adjustments are automatically accounted for in MPP for students who qualify for free or reduced price meals. Practice booklets will automatically be emailed to students once payment is received. Should you wish to pick up a printed copy, please contact the Junior House Office.
The PSAT is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The test begins at 8am but we ask all participating students to be here by 7:40 AM so the test can begin promptly at 8:00 AM.
Students should be prepared for the test by bringing a calculator and several #2 pencils. Extra batteries are also a good idea. Due to test security, cell phones should not be brought into the building on test day. The test should be completed by 11:30 AM but times may vary from room to room. Room assignments will be posted at South a few days before the test.
