Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
From our Principal
Kia ora koutou,
Happy Taranaki Anniversary Weekend. The rainy days on Sunday and Monday allowed me to catch up on some quality movie-watching time, sleeping and hanging out with my whanau. I hope that you were able to have a great few days also.
On Thursday afternoon, 25 of our staff traveled to Cambridge for a Professional Learning trip. We visited two schools on the Friday, Cambridge East and Cambridge Middle School (Y7-10).
At Puketapu School all of our staff are learners and want to do their best for their learners. These learning trips allow us time to view other school's teaching and learning practices and give us time to reflect together on what we do well and what we would like to strengthen. In the past three years, we have visited other schools which have then assisted us in our future decision making.
The Focus of the Trip
(1.) Enhancing Quality Teaching & Learning (Strategic Aim 2)
(Improve teaching pedagogy to enhance all staff and student learning outcomes). We will look at another school's teaching and learning practice and be able to reflect on what is working well for our kura and what we need to strengthen as a teaching team.
(2.) Staff Whakawhanaungatanga - whakawhanaungatanga is the process of establishing links, making connections and relating to the people one meets by identifying in culturally appropriate ways, whakapapa linkages, past heritages, points of engagement, or other relationships. This time together allows us to create stronger connections as a team.
For all those that are attending WOMAD this weekend, have a great weekend of music, dance and the arts.
KIA KAHA - KIA MĀĪA - KIA MANAWANUI
Learning is not just for children!
It's wonderful seeing our staff leading from the front in displaying our school values by caring for each other, collaborating together and always being willing to learn something new!
Your Health is in Your Hands
As well as stopping the spread of Coronavirus, good hand hygiene also helps stop the spread of flu, colds, tummy bugs... plenty of nasties that we don't want.
Here is a link to a very helpful video clip of The World Health Organisations (WHO) guidelines for washing your hands.
Learning Partnerships Hui - Week 9
* Kauri 3 and Totara 5 - Mrs J and Mrs Harvey are away at a course that day, so your Learning Partnership Hui will be on a different day. A notice with details will come home shortly.
These are for 20 minute meetings with the student, their teacher and whanau. Your child's teacher will be sharing with you the learning progress of your child, evidence of their learning and what their next steps are.
We also want to have a korero with you around how you can enhance their learning journey outside of school too.
Just like the Head Start Hui in February, Friday will be for meetings only. There will be no school, only your child's meeting. You come in to school, have your meeting together, then go home again.
Book a time that suits you using SchoolInterviews.
The event code is: 9z7zz
(If you are unable to book online yourself, please telephone the office.)
PARA KORE

CODE
The CODE class has just started looking at scratch to code a game. Last week they started with animating their names.
Scratch uses blocks of code to program. It can be done online, all you need is the internet. Here is the link to the tutorial to animate your name. Give it a go!

Kauri Ukulele Lessons
Hello, I am Rachel, I am a fellow Puketapu parent, my son Roman is in Totara 5.
I am working with some wonderful Kauri children, teaching them ukulele. I love the ukulele as it is such a versatile instrument that is great for learners of all ages.
I am originally from Wellington where I was in an acoustic duo, we performed at venues around town and wrote and recorded original music, we even released a music video.

Policy of the week - Student Attendance
"The Education Act 1989 requires that all children six years old and over must attend school. Once enrolled, it is compulsory for children to attend school regularly.
Puketapu School encourages students to participate fully in school life. Students are expected to attend school when required, and to be on time for classes. This policy applies for off-site activities as well, such as EOTC activities."
You can find details and further information about this and other policies on SchoolDocs - where all our school policies are kept - online, searchable and regularly reviewed.

YUMMY STICKERS
Last year Puketapu received $120 dollars to spend on sports equipment for collecting Yummy Stickers off our fruit but we can do better. There is $200,000 dollars to try and earn. You can start collecting stickers now. Ask Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles, friends and Neighbours to help you collect.
Each Class will be given a sticker collection sheet and there are extras at the office that can be picked up to use at home.
Promotion ends the end of Term 3 so we have lots of time. How much can we get this year?

Colour Your Day this Friday
Colour Your Day started last year after the March 15th tragedy in Christchurch. When so many of us felt helpless, wearing colour was a simple gesture to encourage individuals, community groups and business during a dark chapter for New Zealanders.
This year, Colour Your Day encourages everyone to brighten up their world on Friday 13th March (Black Friday) and support St John for equipment and training to continue their responses to emergencies.
So dress up in bright colours this Friday 13 March. (Gold coin donation optional - every cent goes to St John.)
Sports Corner
Winter Sports:
Miniball:
An adult is needed for each team to take responsibility for the children and to support them on the court.
We need one adult for our year 0-2 team and one for our year 3-4.
These teams are full so no more players thanks.
Basketball
We have coaches for both teams. The year 5/6 team is full but we need 4 more players for the year 7/8 team.
Netball
All teams are full and have coaches. Thank you.
Hockey:
We have 13 keen players from Year 2 -8. I am trying to work out teams and may possibly have to work in with Bell Block School.
House to House
Every month New Zealand families travel an average of at least 210km for their child to receive hospital treatment away from home.
Our Pedagogy Panthers Team has taken up the challenge and are walking 1000kms to raise at least $1500.
Pedagogy Pathers update....
We have walked 594.03 km of the 10000 km
We have raised over $2000...our target was $1500!
You can still sponsor us by going onto our page https://housetohouse2020.everydayhero.com/nz/pedagogy-panthers
Thank you for your support!
School Photos
This year, photo ordering is a little different: You view, order and pay online, so no cash comes to school and you can't use your school account or EFTPOS at school to pay for them.
After photo day, your child will bring home a slip with their unique Access Key. This Access Key will display all the photographs of your child. It is then an easy process for you to shop online and purchase the photographs you want.
If you place your order within three weeks of receiving your Access Key you will receive free delivery for your photo orders. PhotoLife sends all these orders back to the school and your child will bring their photographs home.
Any orders placed after this three week period will be sent directly to your specified delivery address and PhotoLife will charge you $6.00 delivery.
If you would like a sibling photo, you must order this in advance for the photo to be taken. Sibling order forms are available at the office.
Home and School Meeting
