Collins Pride

Each year, Collins selects one student author to represent our school for the Michigan Reading Association's Kaleidoscope publication. This year, Kaylee Scott will be the face of Collins in the Kaleidoscope publication for piece titled, “A Dream”. Please join me in congratulating Kaylee for her talents!

After School Help

Collins Parents,

I am asking for your help. We have noticed that students have been not been using the crosswalk to cross Grand Haven. Some have been walking past our school and crossing the street. We have the crosswalk located in front of the school to ensure students are safe. Can you please speak with your children about this? I really appreciate it.

6th Grade Students/Families: Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

AVID is a program available at all Junior High Schools (pending Board of Education approval to add Malow Junior High as a site for the 2023-24 school year). AVID’s mission is to help prepare all students for college readiness and success in a global society which directly aligns to the district mission and vision. AVID is a program for “middle to upper middle” academic students who have potential for honors and AP coursework in junior high school but would benefit from academic and emotional support paired with the rigor. If you would like more information regarding the AVID program, please view the attached presentation and attend the UCS Pathways Event on January 17th at 6:00PM at Henry Ford II High School. honors

Winter Bus Tips

The winter weather can cause unique situations when the temperatures dip and snow starts to fall. Our Transportation Department has some tips to make the winter safe and enjoyable.

· Dress appropriately for the cold weather. Be sure to wear warm jackets, boots, hat and gloves as the weather warrants.

· Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.

· Stand back on the sidewalk or at least 10 feet from the edge of the road.

· Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop and the door opens before approaching it.

· Never run to or from the bus.

· Wait at the bus stop in an orderly manner.

· Do not throw snowballs or other items.

· Be considerate of your neighbors respect their property including trees, fences, etc. at the bus stop.

Earlier this fall all students practiced safely exiting the bus in event of emergency.

Winter Weather

Don't you love Michigan weather?! One day it's 50 degrees and the next it is rainy/snowing! Please remember that it is our goal to get students outside daily, and students should be dressed appropriately.

  • Boots are a must if students want to play the playscape or field if there is snow!!! If it is snowy and students do not have snow boots they will not be allowed off of the blacktop during recess.
  • Students need a pair of shoes for the classroom so that we are not tracking snow throughout the room if they are bringing boots.
  • Coats, hats, glove/mittens are a must! If your child is in need of any winter gear please let their teacher of the office know, we may be able to help!
  • We monitor the temperature (including wind chill daily), if it is above 10 degrees our Collins Cubs will be outside as much as possible for that "brain break".
  • If your child has a medical condition that requires them to not be outside at a specific temperature the office must have a doctor's note.
