Introduction

Have you ever wondered what are particles and what do they do? Well this scientist does too. Her name is Melissa Franklin. Melissa Franklin is an Experimenter. A little bit about her is that Melissa earned her Physics PhD from Stanford University. She also did Postdoctoral work at the University of California at Berkeley. She became an Assistant Professor at University of Illinois. Now she’s a particle scientist and wants to know about small particles like quarks. Now let’s find out about the things that make up everything.


Higgs Bosan

Melissa Franklin is a particle scientist that is as we speak trying to find out more about the Higgs Boson which is a particle that interacts differently and slows down other particles. She works at Harvard and became a the Physics Department first tenured woman professor. Anyway Melissa says the Higgs Boson is a Symmetry breaking particle and people want to find out what it is what it looks like etc. So now they are planning to try and find out why the Higgs Boson breaks symmetry. She is at a place called Fermilab with other Scientists trying to find out, while some say that we already found it, we just don’t know it.

Super Symmetry

Black Hole?

What she was also talking about was the black hole. She said that we wouldn’t know if we did make a black hole. Furthermore, She said that it could not only be made but made out of particles. That’s crazy. Imagine a typical space black hole. Destroying planets and stars. Then humans come along making a baby black hole that goes Waaa! All day. Not what people are thinking. There’s Also, there’s the chance that it would be made and be Earth-Consuming and We would have no light from the sun. Or it could work for good and we would be able to control it. People say that we shouldn’t even try and not take the risk because it was to dangerous. But scientists always get antsy. They will probably still make it. Hopefully Melissa says it will be for the better.

Conclusion

Melissa has contributed a great part in science. She and fellow scientists have taught the world so, so much about particles like how they contribute to humans act with each other. She is still doing it. What would the world didn’t know or didn’t have particles? What do you think would happen? Imagine what possibilities would be if humans were able to control a black hole. Pros and Cons?
