State Assessment Testing Dates
As part of continued COVID-19 recovery efforts, the Maryland State Department of Education is conducting an early fall student assessment as one of several strategies to identify how students are performing academically. The results will help educators better understand student needs, so that we can address disrupted education and accelerate learning opportunities for all students. These results never stand alone in assessing student growth and will be used in combination with other assessments and class work to gauge overall student performance.
All SMCPS high schools will be administering the above fall assessments on the same dates and at the same time. The following are important highlights of the high school testing plan:
- Each day that a state assessment is being administered, all students will be expected to arrive at 7:45am and testing will begin at 8am (regular bus routes will be operating each day).
- Participation in state assessments is a requirement.
- Students that currently attend the Virtual Academy are required to test in-person at their assigned high school.
- Students that are scheduled to test must take the test on their school-issued laptop (personal laptops will not work) and students must bring their school-issued laptop (fully charged) along with their laptop charging cord each day.
- Students are only permitted to take state assessments on the laptop issued to them (no back-up laptops are available).
- Students that are scheduled for testing will be assigned a specific testing room and testing room information will be shared with students, parents and staff closer to each testing date.
- Students scheduled to take one of the ELA/Literacy tests should bring headphones to use during testing (headphones cannot be wireless). Headphones will be available for students to borrow if they do not own their own or if they forget to bring their own.
- Students that are not scheduled for testing will be assigned to a specific classroom / area where they will be supervised by staff members and provided with flexible academic time to complete assignments independently.
- Testing will take place from 8:00am - 9:45am and no classes will be meeting during that time.
- Students that are not scheduled for testing will be supervised in their assigned classroom / area from 8:00am - 9:45am.
- Once testing concludes at 9:45am, all high schools and the tech center will operate on a 2 hour delay bell schedule and all students will follow their normal schedule (periods 1 - 8).
- The LHS 2 Hour Delay Bell Schedule is LINKED HERE.
Questions should be directed to Mr. Graham Coombs (Assistant Principal - School Test Coordinator)
