Principal's Message

Dear Mata family,

There is so much going on at Mata right now. Tomorrow is Show Up! Dress Up! Represent your Culture Day. Students may dress in cultural attire of their choosing tomorrow while we celebrate everyone being here and being valued as they "Go Get Their Education!"

This week we are also recognizing Education: Go Get it Week, where we encourage our students to pursue higher education and familiarize them with what happens after high school. Our middle school students had the opportunity to hear from various colleges in the metroplex such as SMU, Dallas College, and the University of Texas at Arlington.

We are also excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month to recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American champions who have inspired others to achieve success. We look forward to bringing various cultural awareness opportunities to our children!

Thank you for continuing to support us in our efforts to ensure your students succeed socially, emotionally, and academically. We hope you have an excellent week!

Tomeka Williams

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!

In 1988, Congress designated the entire month of September 15th through October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM).

Dallas ISD provides a series of highly engaging programs and activities this month centered around celebrating, empowering, remembering, and appreciating our students' cultural heritage.

The Racial Equity Office (REO) encourages schools to use these resources to augment lessons and spark discussions year-round.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Dallas ISD

What can be worn to PE?

May wear: a t-shirt/sweatshirt, athletic shorts (at least fingertip length when worn at appropriate place on waist, and arms are extended downward), sweatpants, or joggers. Students need to carry their clothes in a small bag, such as a Walmart bag or a string bag, inside their backpacks.

May not wear: cut-off t-shirts, crop or tank tops, leggings/tights, short shorts, items with holes, tight clothing, or anything out of dress code.

May wear dress code appropriate school clothing and athletic shoes. Suggested: leggings or shorts underneath all skirts or dresses, leggings underneath skirts with built in shorts.

A Message from Nurse Nikki

If your student needs to have medication on campus please contact Nurse Nikki. A physician or provider must complete and sign a Dallas ISD medication authorization form in order for Nurse Nikki to administer medication to your student. Please do not send students to school with medication. This includes over-the-counter medicine, cough drops, inhalers, and ointments. Medications must be brought to campus by an adult and stored in the school clinic unless otherwise directed by a physician and in accordance with Dallas ISD’s medication policy.

The Mata Closet needs your help! We are in need of new boys' and girls' underwear in sizes 3T through 8. We also need gently used (or new) boys' and girls' pants, shorts, and skirts in sizes 12 and up. Please make sure your donations are free from rips, stains, or missing zippers/buttons. Donations can be dropped off at the front desk.

Do you have a knack for organizing? The Mata Closet is looking for 1-2 parent volunteers to sort, fold and organize donations in the clinic. Please contact Ms. Lira if you are interested.

Thank you parents!

Donor's Choose

Please share with friends and family far and wide. Donations on TODAY only will be doubled. We have projects posted from Mrs. Gonzalez, Coach Tuttle, Ms. Boling, Ms. Montano, Mrs. Vallejo, and Mrs. Thomspon!

Self-Awareness: My Success and Strength

Supporting SEL at home doesn't have to be complicated. Below is a strategy to develop and/or strengthen Self-Awareness for all grade levels:

Strategy: My Success and Strength | Goal: Become more aware of specific skills, talents, and strengths that help us achieve our goals.

  • Elementary: Ask your child to think of something they like to do and are good at (art/sport/etc.). Create a poster and label their strengths (planning, creativity, patience, etc.).
  • Middle School: Brainstorm previous challenging situations. Identify how your child overcame the challenge (open to suggestions, had a conversation, managed emotions, etc.)
  • High School: Identify a chore at home that requires your child to use their strengths (time management, collaboration, organization, etc.)

Follow-up Questions:
  • What other situations do these strengths show up in?
  • What are some strengths that your child wants to develop further?
  • How can you model identifying your own strengths?
